Come Closer Chapter 5

Chapter 5

The next day Jean entered the kitchen to see Rogue looking disinterestedly down into a bowl of Frosted Flakes and inwardly smirked.

"Good Morning Rogue."

The young girl smiled back to her and although Jean could see she was truly trying she could tell that the expression wasn't felt.

"Is there something wrong?" she asked and then took a seat across from Marie and began to drink her coffee.

With a gloved hand Marie reached up and tucked a stray piece of hair back from her face, "Not really... It's just... I feel like Logan is hidin sumethin."

"Hmm," the older woman nodded her head, "Yes I have noticed a change in Logan's behavior as well, do you think it could be bad?"

The girl took moment to mull over the thought before shaking her head no, "No, he seems happier so I don't think it's anything bad or serious. I'm just curious. I'll ask him later." The idea seemed to give her some pleasure because the frown was instantly wiped off of her face and she jumped from the stool, put the dish in the dish washer and then left the kitchen.

Jean meanwhile stayed behind and lowered her head so it sat atop entwined hands and looked after her fellow mutant thoughtfully.

Storm woke to the sound of a blue jay perched on her window sill, she smiled at the small animal and stood and stretched her long body basking in the warm sunlight pouring through the many windows that adorned her attic bedroom. It was such a beautiful morning she decided to go for a run and quickly changed into her jogging clothes.

About a mile into her run she was joined by a slightly out of breath Jean, "Hey didn't you hear me calling?"

"No, sorry."

Jean just shrugged it off and kept in pace with Ororo's longer strides.

"SO I haven't seen you around a lot lately, what have you been up to?"

A blush stole over Ororo's cheeks at her friends question. As much as she wanted to talk to someone about her feelings and relationship with Logan, she also felt unsure how Jean would take the news. She racked her brain for something that she could tell her best friend in order to pacifie her want for information before deciding just to tell the other woman the truth, well a variation of the truth anyways.

"I have been spending a lot of time with Logan lately. When he was here before we did not get a lot of time to get to know one another, and he is a team mate. If I'm going to trust him with my life it might be a good idea to know him." She laughed to try and ease the silence and to hide her nervousness.

Jean slowed down until she had come to a stop and then gestured to a bench for them to sit down on. She placed a caring hand on the younger woman's shoulder, "Ororo I'm glad you have been spending a lot of time with Logan lately. What with me and Scott getting married and everything I was worried that his return would be hard for all three of us. But now that he has you to focus all of his intentions on instead of me I guess I was worrying for nothing, huh?"

At first Ororo just sat there stunned into silence by the ignorant statement from one of the smartest people she knew and when she looked back towards where her friend had sat just a minute before she found only an empty spot. The clouds grew dark and dense overhead as her emotions stormed within her and she stood and walked through the property in disembodiment.

Although her first impulse was to just ignore Jean's earlier statement as rubbish a part of her, the scared little girl that everyone left, screamed out at her that maybe her long time friend was speaking the truth.

Since the moment Logan had spotted Jean he had been seemingly enamored with her. He was always flirting with her, around her or just doing something to get the red haired woman's attention. Could it be that now that she was married to Scott that he had switched his affections to her only out of substitution and dare she think it, boredom?

And of course her as an emotional dependent person, no matter how she tried not to be, was ready to just latch onto the first person to show any interest in her. All of the men always flocked around Jean, she seemed to draw them to her like moths to a flame.

Before Jean had came her and Scott had been best friends and were on the road to being more and then with Jean's arrival not only was any thoughts of a relationship with Scott gone but so was the closeness and friendship that they had once shared.

With Jean being a telepath Xavier had taken a large role in trying to train her on using her powers and slowly the chats and father-daughter bond they had once shared where as not broken had been considerately strained since then.

A gentle mist covered the earth where she sat and light rain drops hit her already chilly flesh but none of it registered with the in-depth Weather Goddess.

The King of the Beasts, aka Logan, came creeping up behind her, instantly worried when he had seen the great change in weather from it's blue sky and warm weather to the now clammy and drizzling weather and had set off to find her. The strong scent that belonged to Ororo led him directly to her and he found her curled up in a tight ball, not blinking or moving just staring into the fog that grew thicker around her.

He moved stealthily closer to her and placed his body behind hers before pulling her body so it rested between his spread legs. He used his body to warm her smaller one and gently held her body to his and whispered to her sweet endearments as he stroked her silky white hair. The fog began to dissipate and the rain drops ceased all together but when Logan looked down into the face he had long since memorized the same blankness was all that greeted him.
