From NBC's official Will & Grace site:
Regarding the colorful character he portrays on "Will & Grace" Sean Hayes explains, "Jack is highly neurotic, extremely outspoken, a little bitter, maybe even borderline obsessive-compulsive. However, underneath all that, he is a caring soul and a good friend to Will." Hayes was raised in the Chicago suburb of Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Growing up with three older brothers and an older sister, Hayes says his childhood was similar to "being raised by a family of wild dingoes." A talented musician, he supported himself as a classical pianist and performed in a pop band known as "Sounds from the Stairs" while attending Illinois State University, where he majored in performance and conducting. He also appeared in the university's productions of "Burn This" and "Love for Love." After his collegiate experience, Hayes began working in the Chicago theater community, serving as the music director at the Pheasant Run Theater for several years, where he appeared in productions of "The Music Man," "West Side Story" and "Fiddler on the Roof." He composed original music for a production of "Antigone" at the Steppenwolf Theater and appeared in the original production of "Role Play" at the Organic Theater. An alumnus of the famed Second City improvisational comedy group, Hayes has also had gigs as a stand-up comic, performing in comedy clubs in Chicago and Los Angeles.
While still in Chicago, Hayes won roles in television shows including "Missing Persons," "Silk Stalkings" and "Tough Target." He also starred in the television movie "A&P," based on the short story by John Updike, and can currently be seen in several national television commercials, including Doritos, Pepsi, Geico Insurance and Bud-Light. On the big screen, Hayes played the title role in the art-house hit "Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss," from Trimark Pictures, which won critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival. A resident of Los Angeles, Hayes no longer pickles exotic vegetables (as stated in his previous biography). The snide remarks and cruel questions led him to abandon this once fulfilling and enjoyable pastime. Sadly, Sean is currently hobby-less. His birthday is June 26, 1970.
