Gavin Darklighter, a native of Tatooine and a cousin of Biggs Darklighter, was was only sixteen when Wedge Antilles suggested that he be allowed to join Rogue Squadron. He was responsible for creating the emblem of Rogue Squadron, which featured a twelve-pointed, red star surrounding the blue symbol of the Alliance. Radiating from the points of the star were X-wing fighters.
When the Squadron resigned its commission with the New Republic after the liberation of Coruscant, Gavin painted his X-Wing to resemble a krayt dragon. He was a member of the team of Rogues that played a crucial part in the taking of Coruscant, wherein he met Asyr Sei'lar (a bothan, who was at the time determined to execute him). Their relationship was nearly shattered when Gavin's X-wing was damaged during the capture of the Xucphra Alazhi. He limped to Halanit, only to have the Corrupter and the Thyferran Home Defense Corps track the colony down. Erisi Dlarit made him believe it was his own flight that led the Imperials to Halanit, but it was really Ysanne Isard tracing the shipment of bacta to its source. Gavin assisted the settlers as much as he could, but he was unable to stop the destruction of their outpost.
During following campaigns against Ysanne Isard, Zsinj, and Thrawn - Gavin and Asyr fell in love with eachother. They planned to marry and adopt children, of any species. Their plans, unknown to Gavin, were foiled by Borsk Fey'lya - and when Asyr was severely injured in the battle of Distna, she was presumed dead. She did survive, but decided to leave without telling him she was alive, because she knew the future they dreamed of together could never come true.
