Fenig Durak

"Your X-Wing may be your best friend, but the mechanic is your spouse. Treat them well, or they might not find it in their hearts to forgive you trashing their work time after time." -Anon.

Employed as a mechanic by Corellian Security at 16, Fenig Durak earned a reputation as a mechanical marvel. Often times to the detriment of the relationship between herself and her mechanic father, Kiles Durak. He did not enjoy the idea of his daughter working with the other well seasoned mechanics. When she was younger, her mother was the buffer between the pair, granting Fenig the room to explore her natural talents and preventing much of the damage to Kiles' ego. After Jensa's death at 43, Kiles grew overprotective of his 18-year-old daughter, forcing her to resign her position in CorSec. She left home soon after, scarring her relationship with Kils further with a cutting remark about her mother and his ego. Taking up a waitressing job under an assumed name on the other side of Corellia, she overheard a drunken conversation between two spacers. Between the belches and hiccups, they spoke of the ineptness of the Rebellion pilots and how a mechanic would have great job security. That cinched it. She'd join the Rebellion. Managing to catch a ride off planet that night, having thrown her serving tray at her boss, thus ending her waitressing career, she headed for the Rebellion.

Fenig lucked out and missed out on Hoth. She joined up with the Rebellion after they reassembled the fleet, their numbers broken and disheartened by the defeat on the ice ball. Having recieved no official training in star fighter repair, she was forced to endure the ego and idiocy of the Chief Mechanic. Often times being the butt of jokes and bearing the larger load of grunt work. She made it up to herself by covering the handles of his tools in extra strength epoxy and filling his equipment locker with compacted trash cubes, just to name a few. Needless to say, she was to be transferred as quickly as possible.

And as luck would have it, she was sent straight to the 'reject group' of the Rebellion. Blackball Squadron, stationed on the Celeste, was a motley crew of rejects and near washouts from all over the Rebellion, but as tightly knit as any group could be. It was during her tour of duty with the Blackballs that she met the love of her life, Jake Tolby, fighter pilot and Special Operations trooper. Also during this time, she honed her skills as a mechanic which was attributed to the low priority of replacement parts shipments. Blackball Squadron was all but eviscerated during the Battle of Endor, the survivors being spread all across the fleet as replacement pilots and crew. She spent the next year hopping from assignment to assignment, running from the fear of commitment to another squadron, spurred on by the apparant loss of Tolby at Endor.

Upon assignment to the Predator, she was greeted by a familiar face and was informed of the presence of several former Blackballs. Including the presumed dead Jake Tolby. Upon recieving the good news, Fenig thought she had found a new home. She renewed her relationship with Tolby, going as far as marriage. That was when her life shattered again. Tolby was revealed to be an Imperial Infiltrator Agent. Faced with the horrible news, and time in the hands of both Imperial and New Republic interrogators, Fenig slinks back the the Nebulon B which has become her home to recover and eventually be granted additional duties. Those additional duties, while suiting her well, were not as useful as the original talent that brought her to the Rebellion. Finally being recognized for her skills, Fenig was transfered to the Home One shortly before the Thrawn incident. While during her year on Home One, Fenig was promoted to Chief Mechanic with the rank of Lieutenant. Upon completion of that assignment, she was selected for and accepted to the elite Rogue Squadron where she currently resides.
