VideoDrone

By Adam Condal

A brand new metal edged band named VideoDrone has hit the music industry with a bang with their self-titled debut album that hit stores February 23. Back towards the middle of 1998, metal masters KoRn decided to open a record label to those bands that they thought would rock the music industry. VideoDrone is the second band to be signed to Elementree and they show that they can make it. With a mix of techno, metal, rap and some of their own crazy stuff, VideoDrone has a perfectly unique sound. Every single one of their songs sounds completely different.

KoRn The album opens with a co-op between VideoDrone and Jonathan Davis, lead singer of KoRn. It is VideoDrone's first single, "Ty Jonathan Down", which can be heard on the radio. The song has a dark meaning that is backed up by heavy guitars as well as "pretty" sounding vocals.

Ty Elam (VideoDrone's lead singer) and Jonathan grew up together in Bakersfield, California and have jammed together since they met. After KoRn got popular, they opened Elementree and immediately asked their friends from Bakersfield to sign with the label.

As for the rest of the album, songs swing back and forth from sounding like VideoDrone's hardcore roots to techno songs with keyboards and synthesizers. There is even a cover of an LAPD (KoRn's first band) song on the album. If you ask me, you're pretty foolish not to go out and buy VideoDrone's self-titled album right now!

VideoDrone hit the road on February 26th with KoRn and Rob Zombie on the "Rock is Dead" tour. Three bands of this calibe r are sure to prove this theory to be untrue. They start off in the Arizona area, then come over to the East Coast, drop down south and finish the tour in their home state, California. Be sure to go one of the concerts near you!
