Far away just this side of heaven, there is a beautiful valley

of lush green grass and fragrant flowers. The birds sing

sweetly in the warm sunshine and the soft breezes gently

rustle the leaves of the stately shade trees; and from this

place, called Rainbow Valley, there is a Rainbow Bridge

leading to Heaven.

When your beloved pet dies, he is taken to Rainbow

Valley to join the others who have gone before him. If he

is old and infirm, he is made young and strong again. If he

is injured and hurts, he is made whole again. If his coat is

matted and bedraggled, it is made clean and glossy again.

There is good food and sweet, fresh water for all, and there

are treats and toys and games to play. The pets are happy

and content as they frolic together. But they each miss that

special person they had to leave behind.

Then, as time goes by, occasionally one of the pets will

leave the rest, listening intently and gazing off into the

distance. Suddenly, he begins to bark or meow rapturously,

his body trembling with excitement. He has seen you,

coming to join him at last. He runs to you and as you once

again stroke and caress his beloved head and body, he

rains wet kisses upon your face to mingle with your tears

of joy. As you look into his trusting, loving eyes, you know

that, although parted for so long, you have always been in

each other's hearts.

Together, you stroll through Rainbow Valley and cross

the Rainbow Bridge, secure in the knowledge that you will

never be parted again, as you enter into Paradise.

Look Into A Rainbow

Up in heaven, high above,

Amidst skies of spectral hue,

Lives a love to be remembered,

A heart waiting there for you.

And in that origin of treasures,

That lonely soul remains,

Though having all that he could wish for,

Still thinks of his pains.

He thinks of a person,

Who helped him along the way.

He recalls a guardian angel,

Who engulfed him in her rays.

So in that legend in Paradise,

Amidst crystallized morning dew,

As you look into a dazzling rainbow,

He is there, gazing back at you.

Sparky

Doug and I got Sparky near the easter of 1996.

At the time we lived in a small apartment where

pets were not allowed. We wanted a dalmatian

so badly. But since we couldn't have a dog,

particularly of that size, we decided on a bunny

rabbit. Sparky was a Dotted New England,

meaning he was white with black spots. He

was our "dalmatian". He didn't quite have the

personality of a dal, but that was a good thing!

He was very curious and lovable. His ears went

up when you called his name. He was around

6 weeks old when we got him and he was just

a little over a year old when he crossed the

rainbow bridge due to pneumonia. He died in

my lap on April 23, 1997 at 1:22 a.m.

Salem

Doug and I got Salem when he was 6 weeks old

in 1997. When we brought him home, he was

a holy terror. We kept putting him outside

because he kept getting on our nerves. Now that

I look back, I guess he was just being a typical

kitten. Well, he became an outside cat. He came

home every morning to eat, slept all day, and

then went back outside all night. When Salem

was in the house, he wanted to be left alone, so

he could catch up on his rest. A tomcat is very

busy at night. Salem had a unique personality.

He was very independent with a cocky attitude.

He thought he was the king of all, and in my

heart he was. Last winter, he came home one

evening and I noticed that he didn't look very

well. He was ill, and there wasn't anything I

could do but try to love and pamper him. He

didn't want any part of it and didn't want to

eat. He only stayed in the house for maybe a

total of 10 minutes. I let him back out because

that is what he wanted. Salem usually got what

he wanted. :-) Salem never came back home. :-(

I think he knew something we didn't, and he

came home to say goodbye. I called and called for

him for several days and to no avail, no Salem.

Not a day passes that I don't wonder what

really happened to Salem. If only I had known

that would be the last time I'd see him, talk to

him, and hold him...

Some pics of Salem & Mickey together:

This page was designed to reflect on the joy and

happiness Sparky and Salem gave to us while

with us, not the sadness caused by their

departure. They may be gone, but they stay in

our hearts forever, so they'll never be forgotten.
