INTRODUCTION.
Have you ever done something stupid? I mean really stupid. Something so stupid
that you found yourself in a very precarious, if not dangerous situation. Of course
you have. We all have. I remember one such situation. I t was back in
1963.
I spent that summer at the University of Washington, in Seattle. One weekend
a group of us decided to try our luck at fishing. We rented row boats, fishing gear,
and bought some bait. We rowed out into Puget Sound in search of
salmon.
It started off as a beautiful day. Although, it was a little windy and the choppy
water had us drifting out toward the ocean. We would fish until we drifted out too
far, then we would row back in and start all over. We had done this several times.
The last time, however, we allowed ourselves to drift out quite a bit farther than
previously.
The wind had picked up considerably. The water became choppier. We
placed the oars in the oar locks, and tried to row back in. Rowing against the
current was getting quite difficult. For every two strokes in, we drifted back one.
Then suddenly one oar lock broke. We found ourselves drifting out toward the
ocean, with only one oar in place. Rowing with one oar, had us going in circles.
No matter how hard we tried, we kept going around and around, still being carried
out to sea by the high winds and waves.
Luckily there was a commercial fishing boat heading toward shore. They
threw us a line and towed us in.
Isn't this how many people go through life? They drift along without a care
in the World, enjoying the tranquil ride. Only when the winds of fate, lead them
into troubled waters do they take action.
Unfortunately, many times, these troubled waters become almost
insurmountable. We put forth our best effort, only to find ourselves being carried
out into much rougher waters. Waters where the waves are higher and the winds
are stronger. Finally a catastrophe, such as the broken oar lock, strikes. Now we
find ourselves hopelessly going around in circles. We try our best but get nowhere.
We try our best but keep going in circles. Unless someone throws us a line we will
probably sink.
I hope and pray that this book will help you steer clear of troubled waters. I
hope it will help keep you in the tranquil shallows. Unfortunately, try as we might,
we will probably drift occasionally.
If you are already drifting, then I hope, I can get you to row back now, before
it is too late. I hope I can keep you from getting too deep. From going in circles
and getting nowhere.
If you have already reached this point. If you are already going in circles. I
implore you. Do not despair. There is hope. There is relief. You may have
reached this point for a reason. Many times we must reach this point before we
realize the seriousness of our problems. Sometimes we must reach bottom before
we can climb out of the hole. Sometimes we must reach the end of our rope before
we can climb back up.
I hope and pray that this book helps you come to a realization as to where
you are in life. I pray that this book gives you hope. I pray that this book brings
you relief. I pray that this book serves as a life line, towing you back to safety.
I hope and pray that you will enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed
writing it. I hope it helps. I pray that the Holy Spirit descends upon every reader.
I pray that every reader will be saved. I pray in Faith that every reader will receive
their miracle.
