Suggestions for classroom or library activities:

Name are stories. Who were you named after? Perhaps someone in the family, or for a movie star who was popular at the time of your birth, or for a song. What is the story of the day you were born?

Bring an object into class and discuss what it is, where it might have been, what it saw...its story.

Tell a familiar story, but leave off the ending. Students can construct a different path for the story.

Children can interview family members about birthdays or holidays in their childhood. What traditions were different or the same as now? A very young child can use a portable tape recorder to get family stories that can then be transcribed to create a unique book of stories.

Different cultures have stories to explain natural phenomena. Collect stories about the sun and the moon, about the constellations or even man's acquisition of fire.
