Lesson 1:   Build an English Royal Family Tree Covering the Renaissance Period.

                 Using the internet, encyclopedias, CD-ROM's and various types of resources, create a
                 family tree with pictures of English royalty who ruled during the Renaissance Period
                (1300 - 1600).  Write a two paragraph bio about each one that gives an overview of the
                political and social environment during their reign as well as a well-known
               characteristic about the particular monarch.

Lesson 2:  Write a poem about Henry VIII and his Wives.

                Using any form of poetry (epic, haiku, sonnets, rhyming or non-rhyming, etc...) write
                a poem describing Henry VIII's relationship with each of his six wives.  Use the
               internet and various other resources to find your information.  Be creative, be funny or
               dire, be light or be sombre  -  Poetry is for all moods.

                  Take an online quiz and show your mastery of the subject of Henry the 8th and his wives.
 


 
 
Lesson 3:  Catalog Ten Renaissance Works of Art and/or Architecture.

                Using the internet, CD-ROMS, and various text resources, catalogue ten works of
                Renaissance art and architecture.  Show a picture of the work and write a description
                and critique of it acknowledging its composition, style, content and message.  You may
               categorize the works according to nation of origin of the artist, or subject matter, or
               specific time period within the Renaissance.

 

 
Lesson 4:  Create a Historical Timeline of Wars During the Renaissance Period.

                Using the internet and various other text resources, create a timeline of wars
                that occurred during the Renaissance Period of 1300-1600.
               a.) You may create a very long timeline incorporating all the wars in Europe that
                    happened during this period and write a brief synopsis about each one

OR...
               b.) You may take one particular war and expound on it further by writing about:
                   1.) its primary players
                   2.) its length and scope
                   3.) the prevailing economic situation of the time
                   4.) theories about its causes and outcomes
OR...
              c.)  You may skip the wars altogether and opt to write about something of a less violent
                   nature like:
                  1.)  The invention on the movable type and its impact on society
                  2.)  Martin Luther's 95 Theses
                  3.)  Magellan sailing around the world
                  4.)  The founding of the British East India Company (1600)



 

Lesson 5:  Put Yourself in A Day in the Life of:

                Using Internet and text resources, assume anyone of the characters listed below and
                write about a day in his or her life.  Compose a diary or a journal entry or a profile
                of such person encompassing one day in his/her extraordinary life.  Be sure to use the
                elements of and known facts about the person you are assuming as you incorporate
                these in your writing about his or her day.

 Lesson 6:  Design a Renaissance Garden.

                 Using Internet and various text and image resources, create a garden plan using
                 the basic principles of Renaissance Garden Plans (classical forms and symmetry).
                The garden plan should be designed on a 15' x 25' plot.  Mark your planting
                placements and identify each plant you use.

                Title the garden by describing its essence in one sentence.
