MATTHEW
He was a tax collector of Roman taxes, and without a doubt, was an extortioner and generally despised by the people. One account says he may have been the brother of James (of Alphaeus). After his conversion, he loses
complete sight of himself in adoration of the Lord, and was a personal companion of Jesus through most of His ministry. He wrote the 1st Gospel prior to AD 60.
He preached the Gospel in Egypt and Ethiopia. Tradition says he was killed with a spear in
Nadabah, Ethiopia in AD 60.
