LUKE

He was the author of the 3rd Gospel, which he wrote ca AD 58-60, and the book of Acts, ca AD 62-70. He was a physician. Luke was likely a converted Gentile, who joined Paul in Troas on his 2nd missionary journey, about AD 50. He was with Paul from Troas to Philippi, in the early part of his 2nd missionary journey, and, about 6 years later, he rejoined Paul at Philippi at the close of his 3rd missionary journey, and was with him through his imprisonment in Caesarea and Rome. He was Paul's medical advisor, and doubtless prolonged Paul's life and rescued him from many illnesses. One tradition states that he was the brother of Titus. There are four accounts of his death. 1) He died of natural causes, in Boeotia at the age of 84, 2) he was hanged in an olive tree in Greece. 3) he was crucified with Andrew In Patros, ca AD 68, and 4) he was crucified in Elaea in Pheloponnesus.
