JAMES (the Son of Zebedee)
He was the older brother of John and a cousin of Jesus, and possibly the father of Thaddaeus. He was a fisherman. He was present with Jesus at the Transfiguration and in the Garden of Gethsemane. It is believed he was the first Christian missionary to Spain. James became the first
martyr among the Apostles who King Herod ordered executed (Acts 12:2). According to tradition, as he was led to his death, his accuser,
seeing his courage, repented and asked for forgiveness. The man became a Christian and asked to be martyred with James. Both were beheaded in AD 44.
