ANDREW

Andrew was the brother of Peter, introducing him to Jesus. He was a fisherman who was led to Christ through John the Baptist. He and John were Jesus' first converts. He preached in Macedonia, Greece, Asia Minor, and Russia. Tradition states that he was crucified at Patros (Greece) in AD 60, though another source states AD 68, on an x-shaped cross. He was ordered by Aaegaas, procounsul of Achaia, to forsake his religion or suffer torture. He refused. He was scourged and tied to the cross so that his sufferings might be prolonged. He hung on the cross for 2-3 days, exhorting all who watched him die. According to one account, his last words were: "Accept me, O Christ Jesus, whom I saw, whom I love, and in whom I am. Accept my spirit in peace in Your Eternal Realm."
