God's Will, Not Our Will
I don't remember the 1950's or 1960's, but things I have read and seen shows there was rebellion against traditional society and it was marked by black leather jackets and slicked back hair. In the 70's however I do remember it was protests and peace signs. Then today we have body piercing, that seems to be a attitude toward society. None of us may be what you would call a lawless rebel against authority, but we could be rebelling in other ways. Rebellion doesn't always take a person to the wild side of life.We can be at home, work, school even church and be responding with a rebellious attitude. Sometimes we get so caught up in doing things the way we want to and not the right way or not God's way.
The night before Jesus was nailed to the cross, He prayed with a very deep emotion. He new the pain and torture that was coming for Him the next day. Jesus ask that if it be possiable for the suffering to be avoided. But Jesus finished by telling God "I want your will, not mine."
Even when Jesus life was hanging in the balance, He still prayed for things to happen like God wanted. God's will. Jesus prayer was centered on God's desires and not on His own.Even when His life was hanging in the balance, Jesus expressed His feelings, emotions, and desires. But Jesus placed all His personal preferences within God's ultimate will for His life.
Today we can apply the same approach to our life and our attitudes. God designed us all to have our own personality and style, but our attitudes and actions need to be within God's plan for our life. It's very simple, when we leave God out of the circumstances of our life, we are living in rebellion.
Jesus said this . . . "Yet I want your will, not Mine" Matthew 26:39
