Some people may be a little bothered by the fact that there is an advertising pop-up box on a home page for a Web site that is trying to address issues of spirituality and Christianity.
Some of those people might actually harbor some secret desire to see Jesus come down and whip me out of the Internet the way he drove the moneychangers and merchants away from the temple.
Sorry.
For those who do not approve of the advertising on the top of this home page and who do not think that God and commerce should be so near one another, I have this to say:
Ideally, I would prefer not to have any advertising (It's not that I have anything against advertising, it's just a matter of aesthetics). But Web site providers like Angelfire are able to offer Web space for free to people from all walks of life precisely because of the advertising. In the interest of keeping the Web as free and as open as possible, I for one am willing to suffer a little e-commerce on my home page, and I applaud operations like Angelfire that keep the advertising to a minimum.
And if it makes you feel any better, think of it this way: This page is a single block in the city (my entire site) and there happens to be a business next door to the religious organization on this one block. Drop in to visit that business if you like, or don't. It's ultimately up to you.
