Rift is a world that,in culture, very much like the Old West (1830-1890) and the world/universe of The Dark Tower Series' hero Roland.It's dusty,it's dry,it's romantic.It has gunslingers and bandits.It has small towns and big city's. The only thig missing from the Dark Tower-esque feel is the links to modern America.

If you were to visit this world,you would probably think something like 'Great,another dirtball planet'.Maybe in appearance.To most visitors surprise,no one rides beasts,but swoops and speeders.No one uses ancient firearms,but very intuative blasters.The culture is considered slightly odd,but no more so than any other Outtter Rim planet
