Lewis and Clark - The Corps of Discovery

Topic



The topic of this unit is the expedition of Lewis & Clark in the context of western expansion in the United States.

The students will view the television documentary, “Lewis and Clark: The Journey of the Corps of Discovery” to begin the unit and they will use the internet as a research tool to complete their lessons.  Research links are provided for each lesson in the student section of this unit.
 

Target Audience



This unit is designed for upper middle school students in grades 7-8.
 

Goals/Objectives



Students will be able to make inferences about historical events using historical maps and other history related sources.
Students will be able to compose written work based on research.
Students will be able to use a compass to create a map.
Students will be able to contribute productively as individuals and as members of groups.
Students will be able to use technology to research and communicate results.
