Secret Characters

There are secret characters in the game. Here are the characters who don't join your party on their own.

Yuffie Kisaragi: You can find Yuffie while roaming around any forested area. She appears to you just like any other enemy, except she has the temporary name, "Mystery Ninja, Level 32." Defeating her is pretty simple. Now for the tricky part - the conversation...

First of all, do NOT use the Save Point!! Doing so means that you take your eyes on Yuffie, and when you return, she'll have gone, as will some of your gil.

Once you defeat her talk to her.

Yuffie: You spikey-headed jerk! One more time, let's go one more time!

Answer: Not Interested.

Now she's feeling cocky...

Yuffie: You're pretty scared of me, huh?

Answer: .....Petrified.

She'll start to leave, but turns back to yell.

Yuffie: I'm really gonna leave! REALLY!

Answer: Wait a second!

Yuffie: You want me to go with you?

Answer: ....That's right

Yuffie: All right, I'll go with you!

Answer: ......Let's hurry on.

Now Yuffie is in your control!!

Vincent Valentine: Vincent is locked away in the basement of the Shin-Ra Mansion. The door in the basement is locked, but you can get the key from the safe on the second floor of the mansion. To do this, you need to open the safe. The combo is Right 36, Left 10, Right 59, and Right 97. But be careful! You only have 20 seconds to open the safe and if you go past the number, you'll mess up the combination!! Once you open the safe, you'll have to fight the Lost Number (see boss strategies for more info). After you defeat Lost Number, grab the key to the basement and the Odin Summon Materia. Now head down into the basement and go into the room.

Inspect the coffin in the middle of the room and the lid'll pop open. Vincent will then see you and you'll talk to him about Sephiroh. Then he'll go back in his coffin. When you open it again, he'll tell you his name and that he was a former Turk. When you tell him who you are, he'll ask if you know Lucrecia, Sephiroth's mother. He'll then tell you more about Sephiroth's true past and about his own. After getting this info, he won't open his coffin again.

As you exit the basement, Vincent will stop you and ask if he'll see Hojo if he goes with you. After this, he'll join your party.

Sephiroth: Sephiroth is a member of your party for a brief time during Cloud's flashback in Kalm. However, he is controlled by the computer. But, there are rumors that there is a way to get a Sephiroth-clone. Is it possible? After all, there ARE two open spaces in the inactive party of the PHS menu after Aeris dies. Could one of them be for a Sephiroth-clone? Yes. And I know how.

First, you must collect a complete set of 1/35 SOLDIERS and the Masamune Blade. There are two 1/35 SOLDIERS in Junon and the rest are prizes in the Gold Saucer as is the Masamune Blade. There are 12 1/35 SOLDIERS in a set. With both of these in your possession, you're almost ready to go!!

In Disc 2, after Aeris dies, go to the Sleeping Man near Junon and talk to him when the last two digits of number of battles you've fought are the same (so if you've fought 244 battles, for example). He'll wake up, and if you have the set of 1/35 SOLDIERS and the Masamune Blade, he'll give you an item called No. 2. Then in Disc 3, go back to Sector 5 in Midgar. Remember that sick man in the tunnel? Aeris said he had a tattoo of the number 2. Talk to him, and he'll snap out of his little "ooh...ugh..oo" state and there will be a brief conversation about you explaining what has happened with Sephiroth. After hearing all this, he'll join your party. So when you go into the PHS menu, you'll find Sephiroth's icon!! And this time, he's a playable character!! The only downside is that he has no Limit Breaks and no other equipable weapons. If you try to see his Limit Breaks, all the Levels will be greyed out.

Zack: Zack was the one who was really in SOLDIER, and he and Cloud were best friends. He was also Aeris' first boyfriend. He supposedly died outside of Midgar. But I have stumbled across a process online which gave me proof that he was, in fact, a playable character. So here it is.

During Disc 1 in Midgar, you must say all the "right things" (this may seem a little broad, but you'll know if you've done it right). Then, after Cloud finishes his story in Kalm, Aeris will say that Cloud reminds her of someone she knew. Continue on as usual. When you get to the Temple of Ancients, you'll see an extra scene in the pool , this time of Sephiroth killing Zack and his body entering the Lifestream.

After Aeris dies, you need to take the Super Sweeper and Masamune Blade (both prizes in the Gold Saucer, and yes, you can win more than one Masamune Blade) to the ruined Reactor in Gongaga. Use the Super Sweeper and the Masamune Blade on the Reactor. It'll then explode again and when you wake up, Zack will be lying next to you!! There will be a brief conversation and then he'll run off.

In Disc 3, when you're about to enter the Crater, you'll see Zack. There will be another conversation and he'll join your party. Zack comes equipped with the Buster Sword, but it's a little bit stronger than the original one. It's an ultimate weapon maxed out with Materia slots. Like Sephiroth, Zack has no Limit Breaks and the Levels in the Limit menu are greyed out.

Well, there you have it!! A step-by-step guide on how to find the four secret characters in FF7!!

......Okay, I gotta come clean now. I made up that whole Sephiroth-clone story. I've heard numerous rumors to get a Sephiroth-clone, but to my knowledge, none have been proven.

As for Zack, I didn't make that up. I found it on a webpage (which I lost the link for) and I haven't been able to try it yet. It's probably fairly obvious that the writer was making it up. Why did I do this? To prove to you all that all it takes to make up some bullshit process is a knowledge of the game and the various items that apparently have no use. For more info on this stuff, check out the rumors section.
