Carried
Does it ever seem like the world is crashing down all around you? There's a problem that just keeps getting worse, even though you try to fix it. You go to friends and they support you, but it just doesn't seem to change anything in the big picture? You even pray to God that things will get better, but they don't seem to change at all? I know how you feel. And so do a lot of other people.
On May 25, 2000 I lost my mom. She died of lung cancer and was only in her mid forties. The second I heard that she was in the hospital I thought, "why me?" And then, "why her? What did she do to deserve this?" When my family and I found out that she wouldn't be around for very long at all, I prayed that I'd be able to accept it, because I knew she'd die. A few days later, she was gone. Of course I cried my eyes out at first (I’m only human) but a mere hour later, I was at peace. I prayed and I prayed that God would comfort me, and He certainly did. I knew that she was a follower of Christ, and God gave me a peace that overpowered my sorrow. The peace of KNOWING she was in Heaven.
There's a well-known story titled "Footprints In the Sand," that I’m sure many of you reading this have heard of. It’s about a man who's walking along a beach with God, and is looking back upon his life. Most of the time there were 2 sets of footprints: his and God's. But the times that were hardest for him, he saw only 1 set of footprints. Immediately assuming that God had abandoned him during his times of trial and suffering, he asked God about it. God replied, "During your times of trial when you see only 1 set of footprints, that was when I carried you."
I'm sure some of you reading this are thinking, "That's a nice fairy tale" or something like that. But that story says it all. God carried him through his hardest times. When my mom died, God carried me through the whole situation because I put my faith in him and prayed for help.
When we put our faith in God, great things will happen. He'll help us through our times of suffering when all we can think is "Why me?" God's the only one who can give you that extreme comfort you need when the world comes crashing down. And its as simple as simple as sincerely talking to God and telling him, "I need help."
Psalms 18:6, 16-17 – “In my distress I called to the Lord,
I cried to my God for help
From His temple he heard my voice
My cry came before Him, into His ears.”
“He reached down from on high and took ahold of me;
He drew me out of deep waters
He rescued me from my powerful enemies
From my foes who were too strong for me.”
