silverchair w/ The Mims - St. Louis, MO. September 1, 1997. Mississippi Nights
>ok guys, here we are again. this time around, i didn't have any chicago
>friends with me. :( i instead had my best friend, kari, tag along. i left
>my house at around 4:30 and headed to her house. we went to best buy
>first so i could get a disposable camera. so we did that and got our
>asses on the highway and headed downtown. we got to miss. nites and were
>a bit early. we just drove around for a bit looking for a place to eat.
>no such luck so we just went to park. it was around 6:00 by then.
>we went to line-up in the line that we thought was for people on the
>guest list. we just wandered around then decided to go to the other line,
>where we could see the sound check reel well. i could only see daniel and
>it was a good shot. i saw his dreads and from where i was, they looked
>awesome! i heard them play a bit of slave and abuse me. these teeny girls
>(sorrie for saying it that way!) were standing in front of me and were
>all about freaking out. they kept saying, we saw them, they're in that
>hotel. there was a hotel across the street.
>so, me and kari headed to the hotel. she wanted to get a drink of water.
>so we go in there and i look at the front desk and who do i see standing
>there? mr. john watson! i all of a sudden felt sick and couldn't breathe.
>I was still recuperating from my 'oral surgery' of my wisdom teeth! :) i
>had to sit down and put my head down. so then we walked around for a bit
>but no sign of the guys. we did see a guy sitting at the arcade with
>adidas pants on.
>ok, so we go and sit outside and debate which line to line up in. we just
>sat on the curb across the street from miss. nites. i saw bailey walk
>outside and he walked past us. he said hi to us and we said hi back! so
>then we found out where to go for the guest list and the doors opened.
>these guys gave us tickets cuz they had extra so we have un-ripped
>silverchair tickets! :)
>so, we get up to the door and i give the lady my i.d. she let me in and
>we find a good spot to sit. the second section of the venue, very good
>view! so we sat there and talked to this guy for a bit and waited for the
>mims to come out. they're a local band that kinda dropped off the face of
>the earth till now! so, they finally came out at around 8:30. i was so
>let-down cuz they were horrible. but oh well. they played a short set and
>that was good. they thanked the point and silverchair and
>yadayadayada....
>the lights go dim and the d.j's from the point come out. they got us all
>pumped for the band to come out. so within at least 5 minutes, they were
>out! they had some hip-hop song playing in the background, no circus
>theme this time! chris walked out first then ben then a bit of a delay
>then daniel came out. i could see his dreads better and they looked
>awesome! daniel was wearing a light blue shirt with darker blue collar
>(and i think the same pants at the Feb tour) and sleeves. ben had his
>little mohak going and no shirt on. chris had on his shirt that i think
>says 'bud.' i can never tell what it says!
>they ripped rite into slave with the long pauses. daniel extended his
>arms out during the part where they slow it down. ok, this may be wishful
>thinking but i swear he was looking at me at that point. i smiled reel
>big and to my knowledge (and hope) he smiled back! so then they did leave
>me out. here's the set list:
>(Green PRS)
>Before they did Abuse Me, Daniel introduced Bailey as 'Jack Russell, he's
>our Masturbation Instructor'. everyone got a kick out of that one! :)
>before one of the 'throw the sailors overboard' verses, daniel screamed
>'Everybody Fucking jump!' so everyone jumped up and down like a
>pogo-stick!
>After Abuse Me I had no clue what song to expect next. but what they
>played was definately a surprise and i can't tell u guys how happie i
>was. the second he ripped into 'welcome to the closing' i screamed! It
>was fucking awesome! for some odd reason, the crowd wasn't feeling the
>same way i was. it's like they had no clue what song it was or something.
>but it didn't bother me, i was loving it.
>During Pure Massacre, the crowd went absolutely nuts. the mosh was killer
>and people were jumping everywhere! after they finished and the crowd
>calmed down daniel goes 'St. Louis Kicks aaaarse' it was so funny how he
>said it.
>Of coarse i was crying during Cemetery. the second i saw that red PRS, i
>knew what was in store for me. Daniel said his usual 'I'm gonna do one by
>myself' but he added 'Go for a toilet break and relief some tention' :) i
>blocked out everyone around me and focused on Daniel's incredible voice.
>It was so powerful that i could feel it in my stomach. he put so much
>emotion and energy into it that i was just shaking and my stomach had
>butterflies. i'm not being sarcastic either!
>After he played it and the rest of the guys came back out, daniel goes,
>'See, this is how punk rock we are- our guitars go out of tune more
>often.' and he messed around with the tuning a bit. then he says 'we're
>gonna do a song we don't do that often. it's kinda poppy!' i knew rite
>away what song was in store for us. i was so happie. within 3 songs, they
>did The Closing AND Pop Song!!!! just imagine how awesome Learn To Hate
>would be... heh!
>Daniel did his lovely 'The water in St. Louis...' The crowd went nuts and
>i was especially happie cuz he agknowledged St. Louis in one of his
>songs!!! See, we aren't so bad afterall! :)
>Here's a good example of Daniel's awesome sense of humor. After Tomorrow
>he screamed into the mic, and i quote him: 'Let me hear some mother
>fuckin' noise! How ya'll out there? Ya'll ready to rock? Ya'll ready to
>rock in the mother fuckin' hood ya'll? Can I hear some screaming? Can I
>get a Haleluea? Yea! Ready?' And kicked rite into The Door. He was all
>gangsta like and it was hilarious! Ben and Chris were lauging at him
>even!
>The Door ended and Faultline started up rite away. Daniel went totally
>nuts at the end...along with the crowd. It was so packed with energy it
>was unreal. i could just tell, by looking around, the lucky St. Louisians
>that were fortunate to win tickets were enjoying themselves. I know me
>and Kari were! shit...
>Alrite, anther prime example of Daniel's humor. I can't quote him exactly
>this time but I'll do my best. " I gotta story. You wanna hear a story?
>It's not very good but I'll tell u anyway. We came into St. Louis today
>in a little mini-van ( huge cough ) We've been traveling around in this
>8-seater mini-van with 9 people for the past 4 weeks so it's been
>relatively smelly and hot cuz it's summer in yer country which means it's
>winter in ours. So anyway, we invited this guy on our bus cuz we thought
>he looked attractive. He started doing sexual menuevers and started
>fondling with Ben's genitilia.... ( I lost him here...) He said he should
>shave Ben's head due to the hot weather and instead he left the chunk
>down the middle. Hey, I told u it was bad, u wanted to hear it! " I must
>say that Ben looked excemptionally pissed. heh! so after that, they went
>into No Association. Daniel was Mr. Anger-man during that song! :) he did
>his evil voice during 'stop sucking the blood rite out of me' :) During
>the mysterious 'waterfall' part he kinda mumbled it.
>I wasn't exactly sure what Daniel was doing after No Association when he
>went up to the middle of the stage and just stared into the crowd. the
>lights were shining on him and he looked all evil-like. It was fuct up!
>So he stood there for awhile and starred out into space and just strummed
>spontanous chords on the guitar with tons of feedback. I've never thought
>Daniel could actually look scarry but the lighting made him look so
>physcho! So he then started the first chords of Freak and the crowd was
>hella pleased cuz they kept screaming for it. He flicked the crowd off
>when he sang 'as kewl as all of FUCKING u'. During one of the last 'body
>and souls...' they slowed it down and it was just daniel with nothing
>but. he was all quiet until he screamed 'I'm a Freak!'
>Ok, so they didn't do Learn To Hate but the song they did next was a
>perfect replacement! Daniel goes 'This is off a movie soundtrack. We've
>only done played it live once. We're probably gonna fuck it up '. But I
>must say, they perfected it! I listen to the album version all the time
>and never imagined what it would be like to hear it live. I guess cuz I
>didn't think they would ever do it live. but...they did and I was so
>glad! It was so awesome! They had the spotlight on Chris during the bass
>solo.
>so then they decide to leave us and take a break :( I was already going
>thru withdrawal! but that ended when they came back. It wasn't that long
>of a wait. (thank goodness!) I was wondering what songs they would do for
>an encore. I was pretty surprised when they Daniel started Nobody Came.
>The crowd was just reel mellow at this time which i can understand. But
>they got into it when it speeded up.
>I kinda knew that Israel's Son was up next. Chris had the spotlight on
>him again and did his thing with the bass and fired it up! :) It was
>totally awesome. At the end, Daniel thru down his guitar and grabbed the
>mic off the stand, went to center stage and just screamed his head off.
>He kept screaming 'Put your hands in the air' repetively. he jumped
>around on a rampage and it was so energetic! He almost inhaled the mic
>cuz he was screaming into it so loud! They had the lights to the venue
>flashing on and off to go along with the song. Everyone had their hands
>up and were jumping like mad. I couldn't help but smile to see a pleased
>crowd.
>So the show came to an end and my tears were about to start. But i held
>back, I'm not gonna do that at that moment! :) so we just sat around
>until we saw bailey, hugh and mr. greg johns throwing out memboribilia
>for the fans. We ran up there and unfortunately got nothing. I was soooo
>close to getting a set list but no such luck :( So then we were *rudely*
>kicked out and i came to grips that we had to get out. So we headed out
>and just walked around outside. People were all about walking around
>looking for the guys. We stood outside the doors and awaited them to come
>out. All the crew members along with the guys dads were standing outside
>the 'mini-van' I wanted so badly so say somthing to them but i didn't :)
>so after waiting around for a bit, we decide to leave. We figured the
>guys were in the hotel already. How ironic that we walked off the same
>time the dads did. So basically, we were walking along side them. I was
>sooo tempted to approach Daniel's dad and say 'Your son is the most
>amazing human being and the talent he has is just so immense....'
>yadayadayada. but i decided that he's prolly heard that plenty and knows
>that already! Some girl was talking to him and he was all nice to her and
>wished her a happy birthday, too bad she was kinda stuck up to him! :(
>so anyway, that was the night! we went to the car...very slowly. I was so
>blown away (still) i could barely walk. Lemme say this... out of ALL the
>shows I've been to (ALL of them!) this was by far the best! Yea the best
>silverchair but the best show EVER! They were just incredible and I'm not
>surprised. If I had to pay then I definately would've gotten my money's
>worth :) I wanna thank that special someone out there for letting this
>happen, u know who u are. I've never been so thankful in my whole life
>and now i have something to say on Thanksgiving! (god, i'm a tool!) but
>reely, i luve u for what u did for me and daniel and we appreciate it to
>the max!
>That's all folks. Sorrie if i bored u, confused u, upset u or whatever...
>i did my best. pictures are at the place getting developed rite now!
>thank u, please drive thru!

Okay, folks, i am gonna rewrite this silverchair review...i feel that i
was too negative, and all i could talk about was how rude the moshers
were...but i was still pissed at the time i wrote it, so i will rewrite
it and tell you how the show REALLY was :) altho most of you have heard
from jewelee :) so please disregard that other review i wrote and pay
more attention to this one ;)
silverchair/the mims
well, since i was on the guestlist (thank you SOOO MUCH, you know who you
are :) and mom had won 4 tickets, 6 of us went :) it was so cool, we
were all REALLY excited! so after a while looking for parking (downtown
st. louis is so confusing, one way streets and stuff, it's really hard to
get places sometimes), we got in line at mississippi nights. matt found
some friends from school, so we stood in line with them, but it turns out
it was the wrong line (cuz you have to be in the right line for the guest
list, ya know...) so we went back to the other line (where we were in the
first place!), and got in, NO PROBLEM! it was great...all i had to do
was show my id, and i was in! so, we went up close to the stage (that
was packed with people already) and looked for a spot to stand. i saw
jewelee, and we talked a little...she told me about daniel's dreds and
stuff, and then we went closer to the stage...matt went off with his
friends, but if we woulda stayed with him, we woulda been standing right
on the speaker and wouldnt hear too good cuz it would be so loud (and not
to mention, i still wouldnt be able to hear)...hehe...so the rest of us
went to look for a better spot...we found one, about 2 people away from
the stage...it was perfect....so, eventually, after waiting about 20
minutes (but we weren't about to move, someone would steal our spot!) the
mims came on...they were great...not the best, but ya know, good for an
opening band...so they played a pretty short set...there was one
especially funny thing about them, tho--the bassist! he was not exactly
with us, if ya know what i mean ;) he was very happy thru the whole set
and just had this grin on his face :) hehe...before the mims were done,
i could see the back door open, and in came john watson (i think) and
daniel johns! he seemed REALLY short, i dunno why....then i saw his
dreds, they are really kewl!! you can hardly recognize him...it is
really kewl... so the mims went off after thanking the point and
mississippi nights and silverchair for letting them open and stuff, so
then they were done.....some people in front of us moved so becky and
alicia made their way to the VERY FRONT! they were LEANING on the
railing thing....i couldnt believe it, they were gonna be so
close....kewl for them, but darnit, i was still about 3 people back from
the stage...grr...oh well...after waiting for about a half hour and
watching everyone set up for silverchair's set, the lights dimmed and the
point djs came out...they said some stuff, and said silvercharir would be
on in a few, so then they left...after what seemed like forever (i think
it was about 10 minutes) the boys came on :) i could hardly recognize
any of them, except, i could kinda recognize chris (but not really, i
dunno, they all look NOTHING like they did about a year ago...or even a
few months ago...)...
they played:
slave
----
nobody came
...well, they opened with slave...they had long pauses between the
beginning part... this was great, cuz like everyone was moshin, but it
wasnt that bad...then they played leave me out, and it was hard to tell
what it was cuz they played it really fast (not to mention it was loud so
it was hard to understand a buncha stuff)....then for abuse me, they
brought out bailey and introduced him like so -- "he's also known as
jack russell...he's also our masturbation instructor"...but it sounded
really kewl with his aussie accent :) bitchin :) so, NEways, they
played abuse me, and then the closing, which was REALLY great, cuz i
didn't expect them to play it...then pure massacre, which was also great
(yet another vicious moshing crowd)...then ben and chris left and daniel
said he was gonna do a song by himself (gee, i wonder WHICH song he was
gonna play?) hmm... ;) he played cememtery, which was GREAT cuz it was
all calm and stuff, and i could enjoy daniel's voice, which you never
really get to notice (as good) on other songs....then they played pop
song, which was REALLY kewl, cuz i REALLY didnt expect them to do this
one....daniel even told us they don't play that one much...it was really
kewl...then came suicidal dream...that was kewl (and pretty calm) :)
then came tomorrow...prolly the second best song on the night :) daniel
changed around sum lyrix, "the water in st. louis is very hard to drink"
and "you think you can keep on goin livin like a
hermit"....kickass....then daniel said 'Let me hear some mother fuckin'
noise! How ya'll out there? Ya'll ready to rock? Ya'll ready to rock in
the mother fuckin' hood ya'll? Can I hear some screaming? Can I get a
Haleluea? Yea! Ready?' (i stole that from jewelee's review, i wasnt sure
exactly what he said) so then came the door, yet another song i didnt
expect to hear, but it was GREAT! then faultline...after faultline,
daniel sez " I gotta story. You wanna hear a story? It's not very good
but I'll tell u anyway. We came into St. Louis today in a little mini-van
( huge cough ) We've been traveling around in this 8-seater mini-van
with 9 people for the past 4 weeks so it's been relatively smelly and hot
cuz it's summer in yer country which means it's winter in ours. So
anyway, we invited this guy on our bus cuz we thought he looked
attractive. He started doing sexual menuevers and started fondling with
Ben's genitilia.... ( I lost him here...) He said he should shave Ben's
head due to the hot weather and instead he left the chunk down the
middle. Hey, I told u it was bad, u wanted to hear it!" (i stole that
from jewelee's review, cuz i lost him more than she did... hehe..and then
no association...i dunno about anyone else, but i could really hear that
daniel was saying "waterfall, i can't move it" even better than on the
album....then came freak, which was VERY kewl, but i couldnt jump cuz
these two guys in front of me were about to fall on me, i didnt wanna
take the chance....heh...so then daniel sez "this song is from a movie
soundtrack, and we've only played it once and we fucked it up, but we'll
play it now"...and from what i could tell (i've never heard the song
before) they played it perfectly...definitely a reason to get the spawn
soundtrack....very kewl song...then they left....we moved up to the
"seated" area as they left....it was much calmer up there, and so i could
enjoy (the last 2 songs) more :) hehe...so they come out after a few
mintues, and kick into nobody came...which i thought was weird for them
to do as an encore, but like the other songs they played, it was GREAT!
then of course, we all know what's next---ISRAEL'S SON, which was
DEFINITELY the song of the night...i LOVED this one.. daniel was all
going crazy and stuff, and after a while, he just threw his geetar
towards ben's set and picked up the mic and was all over the stage and
yellin at us and tellin us to put our hands in the air!!! it was so
kewl...then the show was over, and te place cleared out...and the guards
after about 10 minutes after them being offstage, they FORCED us out the
door, literally FORCED us, but oh well, we were pretty much done anyways,
the show was the kewlest show i have ever seen, i just wish i coulda
enjoyed it more, but i dunno, it was worth it :)
cya all later, and hopefully you'll all see a review (of some show)
coming soon ;)

here is a post finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hi there!!!! i've been SO slack the past couple of months but FINALLY i am
contributing to this mailing list cool.....well....first i'm gonna start off
by saying what i think about suicidal dream....i think it is the best
silverchair song.....i dont relate to it most of the time....but when i am
depressed or in a shitty mood i whack on suicidal dream REAL loud & it
somehow makes me feel better.....& when i am my normal self it is just a
fucking good song.....next thing.....if i met silverchair a couple of months
ago i probably wouldv'e been REALLY hysterical & screamed etc but know i
think i'd just chat to them & aske ben for a hug....& hit daniel in the head
& tell him to wake up to himself!!!!!! Daniel used to be my
favourite.....but now...i think fame has definately got to him & he is SO
skinny that he looks like a corpse....i dont know what he's doing
either.....but i know that he is acting like a total pig to a LOT of people
& losing so many people's respect it aint funny.....personally i think he is
a REALLY REALLY REALLY great musician & songwriter...but i think he should
look at himself a little harder & work out where the fuck he is coming
from!!!!! enough of that mumbling......now i just wanna say to heidi you are
doing a GREAT job on this mail out & you should keep up the GREAT
work.....anyone wanna email me.....then do it!!!!!!! marney@wagga.net.au

MY THOUGHTS: Um, this song really makes me feel relaxed. Not depessed,
like others may feel, but it just lets me =forget about whatever is
bothering me and move on... sorta like clearin my mind or something. I
just learned how to play guitar latley, and have almost got this one
(Yeah, I suck, but at least I try....) I really like the guitar parts,
they're sorta magical sounding or something. I dunno... I'm just weird.
I just wanted to type about this song cuz it's one of my fav's, and I've
never posted here before, I think.. anyways, that's about it for me.
Cyas!

suicidal dream is one of my favorite silverchair songs. i think it's
just about being depressed and sort of wanting to kill yourself but you
can't do it so you just think about it all the time. at least that's
what i've always thought. i used to be like that for like 2 or 3 years
and so that's why i love the song and feel like i relate to it.
if i ever met silverchair i would tell them that their music is great
but otherwise treat them like regular people. i would like to talk
about what kind of music they like and their veiws on life and what they
do for fun. they probably get sick of people running up to them wanting
to worship them and treating them like they're not human. they are and
i think that is evidenced in daniel's lyrics. he knows about depression
and his life doesn't seem to be perfect, just like the rest of us.

Okie, now you're done.. move on
