The summer of 1995 was the bloodiest in Karachi's history. The MQM Altaf and MQM Haqiqi were at war with each other. Most killings were carried out in vigilante like fashion. One would often see taunting notes or graffiti at the site of the murders. I recall a particular home in Shah Faisal Colony (a hotbed of MQM violence) where a similar gruesome murder had taken
place. A note on the outside stated," Yeh Tumhara Eid Ka Tohfa (This is your Eid gift) (signed) Tiger Squad."
I remember my many trips to Delhi Colony where MQM Altaf had a stronghold. Photographing there was not easy as shady types hung around at all times. I recall walking in a lane where this graffiti adorned a wall. I asked a bystander what it meant. He told me that this was the home where another
massacre had taken place. The bodies had been removed a few days earlier. All that was left was the "note."
