Jeetay Hain Shan Se

Churail-witch

When I took this photograph, I was drawn to the mask and the activity happening around it. It was not until I was in the darkroom that I fully realized what I had photographed. As the paper lay in the developer, I watched the image slowly appear - the mask hiding the woman's face, her hand clutching at the bangles, and her feet impossibly backwards. I was instantly reminded of the stories I had heard growing up. Of how you can always tell a witch by her backwards feet.

Down to earth

Funland

Dust

When I asked if I could take a photograph, this fellow asked me to "wait a minute" so he could finish what he had started to tell me. He had worked at the State Bank of Pakistan for some years. He reminded me about the importance of the Pakistani I.D.card. "Cannot do anything without it." Then he started to pick up stones and move them to the side almost like making a clearing. At one point during the course of doing this task he looked up at me with frustration and said," There was a footpath here. Tell them that it is no longer here. Just dust." That is when I shot the photograph.
