Made For Each Other - Part 3

The next few days dragged on and it seemed that Friday would never arrive. Emily was a basket of nerves the entire time. She was finally going to meet the man she had fallen in love with. She couldn’t image what was so important that he had to tell her face-to-face and that alone scared her to death.

Michael was also worried. He was scared that once she discovered who he really was that would be the end. He never meant to lie to her, but as time went on, it became harder and harder to tell the truth and now he would have to face it, head on. Once she saw him in the airport, there would be no turning back.

Friday finally arrived. She was dressed casually and wore a red ribbon in her hair, holding it back off of her face. That was how he was going to know it was she. She drove to O'Hare Airport, parked the car and took the long walk to the United terminals and waited for Flight 620.

The plane landed and Emily thought for sure that her heart would bust right out of her chest. People started getting off of the plane and walking into the terminal. She wasn't sure what he looked like except for what he told her. There sure were a lot of tall guys with brown hair and brown eyes, she laughed to herself.

Michael knew who she was as soon as he saw her even if she hadn’t been wearing the red ribbon. She was beautiful, just the way he had pictured her. Taking a deep breath, he walked towards her and could see the recognition in her eyes.

“Hi Emily…” He said softly.

“You’re Micky Dolenz.” Her voice was faint.

“Yes, I am.” He smiled. “George Michael Dolenz.”

Emily’s eyes grew wide. “You mean?”

“Yes. I started using Michael again when I went back into directing.” His smile faded when he saw her beautiful blue eyes turning dark with anger.

"I can't believe this." Her tone remained calm, although on the inside she was anything but calm. "I can't believe you didn't tell me."

"I wanted to." Michael started. "I really did. But it just got harder and harder the longer we knew each other. I'm so sorry."

"You lied to me." If looks could kill, he would be nothing but a small pile of dust on the tile floor. "I don't know what kind of game you've been playing with me, but I quit." She turned on her heal and stormed away.

"Wait, Emily, please." He jogged after her, catching her arm in his hand. "Please, let me explain."

Emily pulled her arm free and put both her hands on her hips. "I don't know why I should, but go ahead."

"You were the first person in a long time who has liked me for me and not because I'm Micky Dolenz of the Monkees. I didn't want to ruin it. I didn't want you turning weird on me because of who I am. Sometimes that's all people see and they forget I'm a real person." His eyes were sad because of the realization that every word he was saying was true.

"You don't have to worry about me freaking out because you’re a Monkee. I'm not some little teenage fan wanting an autograph. I thought we knew each other better than that." Her voice was so cold. "As of this minute I'm not a fan of you or Michael or whatever you want to call yourself anymore." She turned and walked away leaving him standing there in the middle of the terminal.
