Chapter 6
The noise from the breaking of the patio door and Rebecca's screaming had alerted the neighbors. One of them called the police; another one took his gun and went to the pad. He kept Vince at bay until the police arrived.
When the Monkees came back from the cabaret that night, they saw a police car and an ambulance parked in front of their house. Mike parked the Monkeemobile along the sidewalk and the guys quickly got out of it and ran to their house. The ambulance men were taking Rebecca out on a stretcher; she was unconscious and there were traces of blood on her face and on the sheet that was covering her body. Then the policemen came out with a handcuffed man. Micky shouted: "I'LL KILL YOU!" and he darted towards the prisoner. Davy and Mike quickly pulled him back.
Micky went to the ambulance.
- I wanna go with her.
- Are you a member of her family?
- Yes.
- Get in.
He climbed in the back of the ambulance and sat beside the stretcher. The doctor closed the door and sat on the other side of Rebecca, while the ambulance hit the road with the siren screaming in the night.
