Temple Ruins - Oracle at Delphi

The temple is where the priestess sat, breathing vapors from a crack in the earth until she became stuporous. When a patron of the Oracle posed his question to her, priests interpreted the woman's incoherent babbling.

It turns out that Delphi was a kind of predecessor to the CIA. The priests had agents in all countries of the ancient world. The agents reported back on political events and important occurrences--allowing the priests to be accurate in their assessments of evolving situations. In part, at least, that's how Delphi earned its reputation.
