Does the bird know the notes
Of the song that it sings?
Does it realize true freedom
When flapping its wings?

Does the deer know it marked
On tomorrow night's bed?
Does it realize it's lucky
That shot missed its head?

Does the bear think its sleeping
Wastes much of the year?
Does it feed off the power
It gets from your fear?

Does the cat ever wonder
Why chase this mouse?
Does it ever feel jealous
Of another cat's house?

Does the cheetah have races
To test out its speed?
Does it long to go faster
Out of pure greed?

Does a child know hatred
When hugging a friend?
Do they judge other people
By the color of their skin?

Then why must adults
Ignore their true treasures,
And spend all their lives
Seeking new pleasures?

Of tangible things
Less will be more,
To really achieve this,
Stop keeping score.
