Flicker of a Candle

By Zero

The flicker of a candle
Burning through my mind.
Reminds me of a time
When most everyone was kind.

The times have really changed
If often seems to me.
People want to be the best
I just wish they could see.

That all they hold ear
And close to their hearts,
Are things of no value
Items made up of broken parts.

The clothes and looks and money
Why does it matter?
If you were to step back
You’d see that they all really look funny.

Everyone wears a mask,
Afraid someone will see
Who they really are
And what they want to be.

Take off your mask
And let your life shine through
You will never know unless you try
People may like you for you!

You think How dumb,
You’re the one who cannot see.”
I know it’s hard
But listen to me.

You can take this as you want to,
I’m not forcing anything on you.
All I ask is that you take a look at your life
And decide if you want to be real.
