Beauty

An essay by Miranda Ridgeway

Does beauty have a definition? To me beauty is only based on the way we look at things only through our mortal eyes. It can only be determined through our meager personal preferences. There are different kinds of beauty. For those vain people that only see the surface, there is inevitable beauty. It is a must have characteristic that is based only on the outside appearance. If we are skinny and tall, if our cheekbones are high and eyelashes long, then to these kinds of people we are beautiful. But you must realize that beauty is only skin deep, an image of an illusion, a fantasy that is impounded into our minds from the moment we start to develop our personalities and interact with society. To some, beauty is a standard that is set by society to be unrealistically and unattainably high. It is impossible to be the picture perfect, five-foot nine Caucasian girl if you are a five-foot three African American. These are your genetic traits that you were born with. No surgery, contacts, or hair dye can change that. What you must do is set standards that fit your personality and desires. True beauty is within. It is in the depths of your souls; it floods your heart. Remember that beauty is just an impression that you see, and it is all in your head. Only then are you in control, not the image.
