This is the first time I've written for the paper, but I felt that it was necessary, maybe even mandatory, that I wrote about this subject. Now many of you may be wondering what exactly it is that I am going to discuss. Well I won't keep you in suspense any longer. Simply put, my topic is Y2K, otherwise known as the Year 2000.
Many of you may have preconceived notions about what this is. I will attempt to show you just what this little "bug" really is. What could possibly have so many scientists all worked up? What could be putting financial investors and stock market big wigs in an emotional breakdown? I for one don't know the exact reasoning for any of this. Be aware that what I am about to tell you is strictly my own opinions and views of this colossal problem.
Why anybody should worry about this problem is beyond my own reasoning. I feel that the whole problem is being blown way out of proportion. Many people insist that the "bug" will be the end of us all. What will ultimately be the end of us all is the chaos that will come from worrying too much about the "bug".
The signs are already around us. All one has to do is look. People are already starting to stock up on canned goods and all that whatnot. It is my guess that it will be much worse by December 31. People will be looting stores and knocking off banks in a riotous frenzy. This is all superfluous action. Contrary to popular belief, all computers won't crash in a little over 2 months.
No one who knows anything about computers would believe that the digits "00" will make the computers crash. The most harm that those two harmless numbers will possibly do is make the computer think that it's 1900. The computer will not suddenly shutdown never to return to life or blow up or anything like that. Sure having the computer think that it's 1900 will cause a few problems, but nothing we as a human race can't handle.
If you are all that concerned with the troubles that our little "bug" will be, then maybe you should lock yourself in a cold dark cave until you feel you are ready to come back out. That's my two cents worth.
