Severence

Krieghan Riley

Many souls in the world, linked togethor by millions of bonds.
Mother, Father, Brother, Sister, Cousin, Uncle, and Dear Friend.
They all walked through the world, hand in hand, with their bonds of family and
Friendship defying all that awaited them.
Everyone was linked,
But not him.

He was a Severed one, one who had never been able to form bonds very tightly,
Except with a select few.
He faced the chill night air of life nearly alone, forming fickle bonds with others to sustain
Himself.
Never tying himself down with close ties that may be rended and Severed.

He'd had friends, once, but that was long ago.
They still talked with him, but it was not the same
. Everyone had been Forged out of their own experiences, and those experiences were
Different than his.
They'd all walked down separate paths in life, and friends they were no longer.
Short-term companions, maybe. Peers, most certainly. But their friendship had been
Severed.

And so he read, and by God did he read, using the characters in books to
Replace that warm feeling of bonding he had felt with humanity.
Characters. Always containing clear-cut hamartias, and hardly unpredictable.
Bonding.
He'd hoped on several occasions that, maybe if he was Akin enough to a character, the
Bonding would become so great that he would cease to be part of
Humanity altogethor, and live his life within a novel.

And maybe someone would pick up the novel one day, open the cover, and
Feel as he felt, for that would be a true
Companionship.
Understanding was all he wished. No pity, Never pity.
But if one could understand the world as he saw it, then he wouldn't be truly
Alone in the cold life.

But things always ended up the same way. The book would end, and he would be
Severed as he was.
No companionship,
No understanding,
No love.
Until he picked up yet another and bonded

But if the man could only see the Big Picture of life, he would know that
All is alone. All men and women live their lives, forming bonds that loosen with
Time, and then find themselves
Alone in the darkness of life.
And it was worse, for the cold Truth is always much more
Unbearable when you've known the
Warmth of the blanket of
Bonding.

And so the Severed Man rose on the cold sands of the desert of life,
As other Severed ones did the same thing,
And they all traveled, perhaps to find each other.
