"Crazy Dave" Thatcher
While caught up in our own lives, it is often possible to lose perspective of certain facts. We get so caught up in our own stories – our own lives. Sometimes we forget how many other stories are going on around us.
Think about that for a while. There are thousands, perhaps millions, of cities and small towns around us, and each houses at least several hundred people. This may not seem so spectacular at first, but further investigation reveals the enormity of this statement.
Each of us has personal opinions, values, beliefs, thoughts, likes, dislikes, hobbies, vices, etc. I could say that a single human mind is more complex than any science you could study. A single human mind adapts, which makes it a very powerful thing as well. Even those who might be perceived as less than intelligent are more complex than we give them credit for.
I call this the Ego Theory. Each of has his or her own ego, and it is a terribly powerful and complex thing. When we consider an entire planet full of these egos, we begin to understand why there is so much conflict. These egos conflict with each other, and it becomes impossible for billions of intelligent and thinking beings to coexist. This is a fact of life.
So you can forget about aquarias. There can be no peace in any society of intelligent beings. I can perceive only one way to coexist and this involves three things. Talk not, Do not, Live not.
Think about our purpose for a few minutes. It is quite possible that some of us have amazing things to accomplish. Some of us may become politicians, heads of state, or famous artists. It is quite possible that some of us may become prophets, slayers of evil, or heads of church. It is also quite possible that some of us will become captains of military, astronauts, inventors, or ocean explorers.
These are the lucky ones. There are others...
These others may be you or me. Our purpose may be quite small. We might just succeed in influencing those with a larger purpose. We could enrage them, inspire them, fill them with hope, joy, and happiness, or we may do something bigger like giving birth to them.
Think about that and see what it does for your ego. An occurrence encompassing only a few seconds could be the high point of your life. Your purpose. You may not even realize it. It could just another interaction with another person, but it may become something more than that. Imagine that the entire purpose of your story is to be a minute character in someone else's. As if this wasn't bad enough, your part in the story of an important person could be something incredibly small. Something that may seem unnecessary in another's story, without which would make no difference to the story. This is most likely the case.
But don't lose heart in your own purpose. There are two things to consider. First of all, big things are made up of small things. If one small thing is missing, the big thing cannot exist. Remember this, and believe that your part in someone else's life is completely necessary.
The second thing to consider might be slightly more helpful. There is more to life than purpose. Purpose is a small thing. It is based on the large-scale world, and get used to the fact that your relationship with the large-scale world will be an extremely small one. I wrote previously about the meaning of life. This is something to consider. Don't get too hung up on the fact that the rest of the world doesn't know you. You know yourself, and the amount of fun you have in your life can compensate with your small purpose.
