As many people in the community have heard, a hypnotist visited our high school for a short time a couple of weeks ago. Having Dr. Bellows and his assistant/wife come was a much-needed change of pace. He has been all over the United States hypnotising people to help and heal them or just to show them a good time. For us, he presented a fresh idea that was comical, but snuck in some education on the side!
Not many had witnessed this act, which made it better yet. Everyone was amazed and the laghter hardly stopped for a second. The best part was that actual students and friends of ours were up in front taking part in the program. There were two teachers and about equal an amount of boys and girls. Each act was as funny as the next. (Except, a few stick out!) For example; one teacher, who usually keeps to himself and is very quiet, got up and pretended to be Elvis- singing and dancing and making all the moves perfectly! The other was at the very end when a Football player started to dance the ballet and thought it was his big finale. After watching himself on videotape, he couldn't believe his eyes! Of all the participants that I talked to, none remembered what they had done.
Now, there has been two types of assemblies in Lexington past- the regular and the exciting! A regular assembly consists of a speaker, talking for hours on a usually good quality topic. No matter how important the topic is, when the presenter talks endlessly and without visuals, the audience's attention is lost. Obviously, if no one is paying attention, the message has been inaffective and not fully understood and heard. Then comes the new and exciting assembly with visuals, an act or show. When the speaker does something unusual, they also keep the interest of the audience adn the message is extremely affective. The last assembly showed how easily the mind can be altered and persueded. Some were able to experience it and can tell others what it is like. Also, this was a wonderful get-away from the normal and start the morning off well!
Especially this time of year when students(and teachers!) are tired of the school routine, little fun breaks are just what is needed to continue the day!
