Smile. One word of advice, that if taken lightly, can change your life. To the people who say, "Why?" I say, "Why not?" Smiling literally brightens up the day. If you smile, people will want to talk to you, and you will be regarded as a happy person. People who smile get more compliments, are considered generally smarter, and have more friends than people who frown. Also, it is scientifically proven that smiling makes you feel happier.
What is the point of being a pessimist? Nothing is accomplished by complaining. If the world is unfair and awful to you, then instead of getting depressed about it, do something! Make the world a better place instead of mindlessly grumbling about unpleasantness. Bad things happen, and it is right to feel sad, but this has a time and a place. One punch should not take you out for the count.
Many people that I talk to are eternal complainers: if their house isn't messy, than the dog is sick, or it's too cloudy. Something is always going wrong. They don't have time to smile now; they will smile later. Why do people put off being happy? What exactly is wrong with RIGHT NOW? Stop and smell the flowers! You are not being asked to run a marathon, or roof a house, you are being asked a simple request that takes less than a second and has endless rewards. Unless you have a purple tongue or something else you want to hide, there is nothing keeping your lips stuck together but sheer stubbornness.
Another excuse for not smiling is being too sad. Well, what makes you feel better than seeing someone's bright shining smiling face? Nothing! If there is no one else around, smile into a mirror and see your brilliant reflection smiling back at you! If you don't feel happy, fake it. Sooner or later the physical act of smiling will release endorphins into your bloodstream, making you feel alert and lively. It's just a 'feel good' thing that really works.
How can I convince you to smile? I cant. We were all born with the freedom to decide, and people have to decide to smile or frown on their own. We don't control what happens in this world, but we do control how we react to events. Taking things lightly and with a smile reduces stress and basically makes the world a better place to live in. Make your friends and neighbors happy by a simple smile. Here's a little irony for you- people often complain that they are too tired to smile. Then why aren't they too tired to frown? Smiling actually conserves energy. It only takes 19 muscles, as opposed to the 47 muscles needed to frown. Does this make any sense to you? Now that you have no excuse not to, go out and show the world those pearly whites!
