Have you ever asked the question ‘Are we alone?’ If you are an average person, you’ve probably considered this question once or twice. Are we alone in the Universe? Perhaps we are. It depends on which theory of creation you believe. If you believe the theory of the Deities, then your answer would probably by "Yes, we are alone." Why is that? Religions are made to be "self-centered". They believe that there is only room enough for one planet of people. They believe that the history of the Universe is written down in their little ‘book’. They don’t believe that the Deity which they worship would keep anything secret, and the stories only mention one group of people.
If you are a firm believer in the Theory of Evolution and Biology, then your answer would probably be "No, it is nearly scientifically impossible for only one planet in the Universe to sustain intelligent life". The key to the entire argument is there, ladies and gentlemen. The word intelligent is an enigma. What makes life intelligent? What makes them evolve from single celled life forms into intelligent beings? That is a question that Science has not been able to answer as of yet. Science firmly states that there are several billion other planets in the Galaxy that are able to sustain life, and about half of them (an estimation) house intelligent, growing beings.
Another space related question for all you philosophers out there. What is beyond the Universe? How far does the Universe reach? Science also states that there is some sort of boundary for the Universe. After you reach the boundary to the Universe, what happens? Would your body be able to take it? Would you simply disintegrate? Would you just simply cease to exist (rather troubling though, since Science states that no matter can be destroyed)? Would you reach the entrance to some greater place (if you believe in that stuff)?
Is there even a boundary to the universe? Is the universe round like the Earth, never ending? I’ve heard several authors write about a multiverse, a multidimensional area. Maybe you can reach those other universes through some overdeveloped remote control, as they do in the series sliders. Maybe you can reach other dimensions through marching off the edge of the Universe (assuming that it is flat). These are very though provoking questions, but they are for you to answer on your own (that is until science develops a way to test it).
