Hey...Have You Heard?

By: I.S.K.

Everyone has probably helped spread a rumor; it’s something that most people do, but why? Next time you find yourself saying something about someone, ask yourself, "Who is this helping, the person or people it’s about or am I just saying these things to make myself look better?" I look at people who say things about other people and realize who they really are. Rumors don’t help people become confident about who they are. For the people who are very quiet, a rumor about them could quite possibly make them feel like a NOBODY instead of a SOMEBODY. Instead of tearing down a person with hurtful words, we should learn to BUILD THEM UP! "Enough with the hate," I say, "let’s be nice!"

To start off with, give people compliments. Pick one person each day to compliment for five school days. Pretty soon, you will feel a difference in yourself. Other people will see that difference and you will have become a better person. You should feel proud of yourself and perhaps you will have more respect for others. Simple things, like complimenting a person, will put a bandage on the hurt some receive from others.
