Dr Bob Rich |
Dr Bob Rich is an Australian writer. He has had a regular column in a magazine since 1980, and articles in many others. He is the author of two successful non-fiction books. One of them has been continuously in print since 1987. He has won numerous prizes and awards in writing competitions. In 1995 he was asked to read a story to a writers group. The snippet he prepared came to life and swallowed him. Ever since, Bob has lived in the distant past, resenting the rude interruptions of the 20th Century. The result has been a planned series of 10 or more books, of which several are completed. Then he came up against the harsh reality of publishing fiction. He found that everyone loves his stories--except for readers hired by publishers. The big achievement of 1998 was finding an agent, but so far she has not been able to place the lead volume. |

Daphne Saxby Taylor |
Daphne was born in Newcastle NSW, into a long line of Australians, all her ancestors arriving in Australia in 1830/40s, so all my life she heard stories passed down in the family; stories of those early days of life in the colony of NSW. There were stories of courage and endurance, initiative and triumphing over overwhelming odds. There were stories of bushrangers, in particular Thunderbolt, active (and believed innocent by settlers) in the upper Hunter Valley, the setting of two of her novels. Many of these anecdotes have been woven into her books. She married herteenage sweetheart in 1950, when he had just been ordained in the Anglican Church; and has a family of 4 daughters, 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She now lives in a beautiful valley at the head of the Brisbane River. Rectory life, and parish involvement have given her close contact and interaction with people of all walks of life. Daphne has written up parish events for newspapers, written and produced skits and plays to specific themes for conferences, regional rallies etc. In 1983 she self published a collection of inspirational or mood poems under the title STAR O’ER THE VALLEY. For several years she was the reporter/editor for a country weekly newspaper. In 1995 Albatross Books of Sydney published her two Early Australian Historical Novels, CAROLINE and WILHELMINA. She has written three more novels, two early Australian Historical, and one contemporary, though it is connected and has frequent flashbacks to the 2nd World War era. |
Greg Seitz |
Greg is a computer programmer who writes for fulfillment and to assuage his overactive imagination. Ive been writing on and off since my teenage years, but didnt begin to publish until the mid 90s. Thus far Ive written mostly poetry and have been published in a number of small press publications, and just recently commissioned a Chapbook. A few of my prose tales have also been published. Of Ages Past represents my second Internet publication, a medium Ive only recently discovered and one Ill admit of which I am a bit skeptical (see Sven Birkherts The Gutenburg Elegies). But Ill not enter into that discussion at this time. As for style or subject matter, I dont adhere to a particular genre, but try my hand at a number of schools. I do read a significant amount of 19th-century fiction and do seem to easily place myself in that time period. Im quite comfortable with Victorian or Purple prose. I really believe Im just beginning my true writing career and hope to produce more from this point forward. I seem to be mainly dogged by two things; one, the difficulties and constant chores of practical reality and a truly preternatural laziness. I pray that I do a better job of battling these in order to further indulge my serious love of literature. That said, Im forty-one years old, have a bachelors degree in Anthropology from the University of Kentucky, am married, have no children except an Imperial cat named Robespierre. My wife indulges my love of letters and functions as confidant and sometimes editress. We all three have a love of Books demonstrated by my wifes and my reading habits and our cats consistent preference of my library study over the modern TV room. My brother and uncle are both successful writers, the former for tales of the supernatural and the latter mainly for his unique spontaneous poetry. Some of Gregs poetry can be found in Dark Moon Rising. |
Barbara Smith |
Barbara has always wanted to write, but never found the courage to try until her late forties. I have written numerous short stories of different genres. I find that the easiest to write, from my point of view, are humorous stories, based on real life incidents. I did enjoy writing By Any Other Name, if only because of the amazing historical information that I came across during my research for the story. . |
Joyce Soule |
Joyce has an MA in English Literature from Michigan State University and has taught all social sciences (shes also a history major), and English courses at the middle and high school levels in public and private schools. I taught at Michigan State University in the Secondary Education Department on loan from the English Department. I have edited literary works for Research and Education, a New Jersey publisher, such as an interpretion of Leaves of Grass for MAX books, which is similar to Cliff Notes for college students. I was also Writing Editor for a magazine that died from poor financial backing. I am involved in a number of writing organizations; Mid-Michigan Romance Writers as immediate past president; Greater Detroit RWA; North Louisiana RWA; Outreach International; Writers of Non-Traditional Romance; Tampa Area Romance Authors. I have helped these organizations judge their writing contests. . |

She went on to write two more category romances as Marianna Essex and has since produced seven historical romances. M. E. Welch |
Mark Edward Welch was born to the son of a Master Sergeant Robert Lee Welch, US Army, at the Naval Base of Kittery, Maine, in the year 1964. Growing up in the small town of Springvale, Maine, playing baseball and marching in the local High School Band was his dream. Neither of the two blossomed into a career. After completing a bachelors degree at the University of Maine, Orono, Maine, in business administration, he knows absolutely nothing of running a business, although his small construction company is providing a meager income. After university, this partially deranged person chose to enlist in the United States Navy and was commissioned by Congress in 1986. 36 weeks later, after completing hell in Coronado, California, he was awarded the coveted Budweiser pin, and began a career as a Navy SEAL. Four and a half years later he dumped the career for a new wife, who soon dumped him. Now, Capt. Mark spends his time running a small construction company, being a charter captain for local yachts bound for Bimini and the Bahama's, and writing in Miami Beach. Walking his four-year-old boxer on the beach at sunset is his favorite pastime, yet he enjoys reminiscing the old days with friends at the VFW...(mostly lies), and tossing back frosty glasses of beer. The Captain likes TKO critiques and loves to give them. Poetry is not his strong point, yet he is determined to write something that resembles the art in the near future. |

William Wolpert |
William was born in 1941, five days before the start of World War II. He grew up in the Cincinnati, Ohio, area, and served four years in the U. S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963. In 1970, he moved to Southwest Florida, and has been here ever since. In a bit less than two years, hell be retiring to Western Montana where he plans to seek out his sanity and get more writing done. Hes only recently begun writing Historical Fiction. He developed a strong interest in the history of the West to go along with his love of the area, and it seemed to follow that he put one of my characters there and see what happened. He writes mostly fiction, for and about teens in outdoor adventure settings. He tries to create characters who are a bit tougher and more independant than most, and to write the sort of story a kid might choose for himself, rather than what his grandmother might choose for him. In opposition to todays mantra of be like, look like, think like, William wants his readers to know its okay—maybe better—to follow no drum other than the beat of ones own heart, and to find their own place to listen to that sound. Additionally, William has other stories in various stages. One is a complete reversal of the standard Kid lost in the wilderness fights his way back to civilization. His character becomes trapped by civilization and its systems, and must struggle to return alone to the wilderness where he was raised and the mountains he loves. Another is a near-future story of the survival of two urban teens when all of societys systems collapse and they are left to live on the remnants. |
