EDUCATION - THE LORD'S CONCERN

Family Priority Two

We can communicate with others through a variety of means in our day. The old reliable means of communication like the postal service, or “snail-mail” as some call it, can enable us to communicate in written form in just a matter of days in many cases. And methods unknown in previous generations are at our disposal: cellular telephones, fax, voice mail, E-mail, instant messengers and pagers. These methods allow instant communication. It seems we lack no resources of getting a message from one point to another these days.
But how do we communicate truth from generation to generation? God’s plan for doing this focuses on the family. While the Church and the many facets of the Church organizations can accomplish much in communicating truth, they still cannot beat the family for transmitting God’s Word. The family continues to be His chosen instrument for passing truth along from one generation to the next. This study deals with three ways each of us can fit into His plan for our family.
And as a Christian, we should be able to look back on so many others (both in recent years and in biblical times) who laid a foundation of faith that gives us the encouragement to draw closer to God ourselves. We should be thankful for those that have laid the foundation of faith before us and pray that we will never forget that we are where we are because of the faith that was on their shoulders.
Please note the word “foundation” in the title of this study. A foundation can be created with a poor substance just as it can be created with a good substance. Many men and women are struggling in the world today because bad choices that were made by their forefathers. At the same time many are living a wonderful life because of the good choice made by their forefathers. A foundation is the base on which a thing stands. In this study, we will see three great pillars on which the home can firmly stand: teaching God’s Word, knowing our spiritual heritage, and testifying of our faith. For some years now, the home has appeared to be on shaky ground as divorce rates spiral and youth seem to be caught in an evil whirlpool that continues to pull them more and more under to their destruction. Each of these three pillars will help you build a foundation that can keep your family standing in the storms of life.
Make it your goal to use all three in your family life. Not only will you strengthen your family, but you will also ensure that truth continues to flow through your children to their children and beyond. Your family can become a channel by which God keeps the truth alive.
I love you guys, Bro. Doug
