Forever Entertwined

When the fire is out
And the smoke has all cleared
I look in your eyes
As we wipe away tears.

We cough on the smoke
And choke on the words
We say things and hear things
We wish we'd never heard.

Quiet words of apology
Trying to cleanse from pain
We offer ourselves
As an even exchange.

We know in the end
That this remains true
You must love me
And, still, I love you.

So, love, I give you my heart
And take yours as mine.
Our hearts, our lives,
Now, forever, entertwined.
