indie rock

Music. What do you do when you go to parties? Listen to music. What do you do while you're sitting in your room? Listen to music. What do you do while cooking, cleaning, jogging, doing you homework or driving your car? You listen to music. We spend a lot of our time listening to music. If you're going to spend this much of your time listening to music, it may as well be good...right? Many people complain that there's no good music around these days. If you're watching TV or listening to the radio, you're right. To find good music these days, you have to look a little harder. Great music is being made, but it isn't getting famous. This isn't because of lack of skill and talent, but because many artists wish to remain relatively unknown. This section is dedicated to informing people on great music they may be missing; music that isn't part of the mainstream.

Maybe I'm lame by ratting them out to all of you. Hey, these people have great shows-small places with hot crowds. They have little cult followings in some cases, but definately not a bunch of fifteen year olds with angst problems. These are good people of all ages and if you live in L.A., I'll let you in on some cool ass venues down at the bottom.

Right now, this section is relatively small. If you have any favorites that aren't listed here (and aren't all over the radio or MTV), let me know.

A friend of mine by the name of S. Lennon would like all lovers of indie rock in Wales to know something. On the local music channel S4C there is a program calles i Dot which features indie music at 9pm on Thursday. Over and out.

A minor forest

Ani DiFranco (okay, so she's not indie rock, but I couldn't ignore her and not put her up. C'mon, it's Ani. You'd be suprised at how many people just don't know)

Badly Drawn Boy

Belle and Sebastian (softer)

BLONDE REDHEAD (if you didn't know, now you do)

Cat Power<----this band kinda stinks

COLDPLAY

Death Cab for Cutie (crossover)

Dispatch (great hippie rock)

ELLIOT SMITH

THE FAINT (new wave craze)

The Folk Implosion

Guided by Voices

LOW

Pavement (harder)

Poe

Pretty Blue Eyes

SARAH HARMER (great folk singer/songwriter...beautiful!)

Sebadoh

Silkworm (drunken bliss)

Snail

Stereophonics (brit rock like Coldplay. not necessarily indie, but listen to it anyway)

THREE MILe PILOT (personal fave)

Tinsel

The Ziggens (crackheads)

also check out Mazzy Star. She's been heard of, but not enough.

If you live in Los Angeles, hit these spots:

EL REY THEATRE (on Wilshire)

THE SMELL

SPACELAND

KNITTING FACTORY

and of course the TROUB

Of course there are others. Tell me your favorite spot and I could put it up. Hey you found the page. Maybe someone else like you will, you could meet! Wouldn't that be lovely, that is, if you can stand yourself.
