Movies are a part of everyones life. It's very sad when such a holy institution
goes to pot. Look around you. Look at the papers. Look at the marquis. What do
you see in the thatres today? Crap. Ideas such as "plot" and "character
development" have given way to cheap thrills, bad acting and special effects.
Every summer blockbuster is "an action packed thrill ride that will leave you
on the edge of your seat!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Every notice that that's the least
comfortable
part of the chair? Will you think about these movies in a year? A month?
They're usually forgotton within the week.
Movies used to have a messeage, or at least a soul. Even childrens
movies have become lifeless and stale. What ever happened to the gala
premiers of the 30's and 40's? Our silver screen is turning to steel. More and
more often do we walk out of the theatres dissapointed and let-down. We
should be moved. We should be thinking. Movies have become a way to escape
feeling and thought and live in the action, the explosions, and the adrenaline.
Movies are supposed to do the opposite. A movie is supposed to entertian but also
to provoke some thought or some feeling.
Of course all movies aren't cheap and hollow; just
the grand majority. There a few good flicks out there.
The following is a list of films I believe are in some way "special" and deserving of the time and money of the movie going (and renting) citizen. Print this up and take it with you to the vidoe store next time. It'll help get rid of that "Blockbuster Blank" you get the second you walk through the door.

(summaries, pictures and links will one day be available for each of the movies listed. Right now I only have info and pictures for a few
Mask (with Cher and Eric Stoltz)
The Nightmare Before Christmas
One Flew Over The Coocoo's Nest
The Monty Pythons (Holy Grail, Meaning of Life, Life of Brian, Flying Circus, etc.)
I must admit, some of my favorite movies are I didn't put any up because I'm quite embarassed.
Right now, I personally think independent films are the way to go. If you get the chance, go see "In the Company of Men." It's a great example of what I'm talking about.
This list is incomplete. have you ever been asked "What's your favorite movie?" and drawn a complete blank? Same thing here. I'm sure I missed a ton of great movies, so let me know and I'll put 'em up, Thanks.
