
Ava Leavell Haymon writes poems and plays, teaches workshops in poetry writing, and works in the Artists in the Schools program. Her poems are published widely in journals, including Northwest Review, Hudson Review, Shenandoah, and Georgia Review, and in five chapbooks, including Staving Off Rapture (Flume Press), Built In Fear of Heat (Nightshade Press), and Why the Groundhog Fears Her Shadow (March Street Press). She reads her poems in many parts of the United States. The theater company Playmakers produces her plays for audiences of children all over Louisiana -- most recently “The Drowsy Princess,” and “The Mermaid Who Couldn’t Sing.”
