Cat Food Survey Results
survey | survey results | my opinion | what I feed my cats

Here are the results so far of the Cat Food Survey (from oldest to newest):

cat food name: Iams Kitten Formula
cat food explanation: We feed Iams to our dogs because that is what was recommended by our vet when one of our dogs had digestion problems. We decided that would be the best choice for our cat also. We use kitten formula because she is nursing.

cat food name: Friskies
cat food explanation: Because it is was the cheapest, see she is not our cat. My brother almost hit her and brought her home and guess what? She is PREGNANT! Anytime this week!

cat food name: Iams
cat food explanation: cheap

cat food name: Iams Adult Dry, Iams Kitten Dry

cat food name: We feed Nutro Max to the adult cats and Eukanuba kitten food to the one nursing female. We also include a "breakfast" and "Dinner" of one tablespoon of tuna.
cat food explanation: Nutro Max has the same or better nutritional analysis of other leading brands. It has a decent ingredient formulation when compared with other brands. My cats love it. The Eukanuba was selected due to its nutritional analysis as well.
additional info: Caring for a diebetic cat was the main reason I started comparing nutrional analysis versus ingredients.

catfoodname: We feed Whiskas wet food in the foil envelope/pouch.
Favorite flavors are Chicken, Turkey, Salmon. Previous favorite was Friskies canned Salmon.
catfoodexplanation: My cat would only eat salmon food. She doesn't always eat the whole can at once and she won't eat cold leftovers.
I noticed the new Whiskas in the pouch contain a little less food than the can. I brought home each flavor and found that she liked several of them. Now she gets 2-3 pouches a day instead of 1-2 wasted cans.
additionalinfo:
Whiska's should sell all their flavors in a convenient 10 pouch pack. They currently only sell a mixture of 8 flavors in a 10 pack. My cat won't eat half of them.

The person below is from Australia, and the cat food brands are different there.
catfoodname: Snappy Tom - Fish
Whiskas - Fish - Jellymeat
Dry Food - Whiskas, Gocat, Kitekat
Natures Gift Soft Tender Treats.
VIP Fussy Cat pet mince
catfoodexplanation: What I have always given my cats.
The Natures Gift is fairly new and the Fussy Cat mince is new as well.
The cats love it.

catfoodname: Purina Special Care
Purina Pro plan
Hills Science Diet

catfoodexplanation:
I used to feed Iams regularly to my cats, and so did my neighbors. Then, when they started distributing them to Walmarts
and K-marts, we all noticed are cats were less heathy. At only 10 years of age, I lost my beautiful siamese...and so did my neighbor...hers was only 8 years old. Both Siamese...both indoor cats, and both treated like Queens with yearly vet checks.
Both our vets, (two different), claimed our animals lacked the right nutrients in their diet...thus causing liver and kidney distress, anemia, and eventually death. My girl was from Texas and a well known pet shop, hers was from a high breeder here in Wisconsin.
After research, and seeing 4 different vets...I decided a mix of these brands are best now for my 4 stray cats, and will also be, for the new 4 stray kittens 2 weeks old...that I just took in today.

catfoodname: Purina products
Nutra Max best

They hate Iams, won't touch it.
They all have byproducts that I'm very leary of.
Nutra Max - Need to check the ingredients.
catfoodexplanation:
Cats like the Purina foods. They also love Nutra Max.
additionalinfo:
Yes I'd like to say that I don't care to feed my cats by-products anymore then I care to eat them. Every brand I have checked has by-products. What are these by-products? I've read info about what they are and am ready to create my own food for my cats. I've read that animals that are put down end up in the food chain for animals. That doesn't surprise me at all. I hate it when companies try to make me believe they are so caring that they wouldn't use waste products to make a product. Americans aren't really that gullible anymore. There is so much trickery in words and deeds that it's hard to trust most companies and when it comes to food! Hey I don't want to eat pig **** or cow or chicken or dead animals that are diseased. Excuse me!!!! I don't want to feed it to my kids or animals. Yeah I care!!! I'm just more then a tad tired of the non-caring attitude of the money makers of this country. I find all of this more then sad!

catfoodname: Timmy, a 13-year old diabetic, gets a protein snack of either tuna or chicken or salmon at the 7th hour after his shot. this keeps his glucose in line as the insulin is about to wear off. I put the food in a timed feeder, and he usually waits for the feeder to pop open.
The other cats and Timmy get Mother Hubbard wet and Wellness dry (both from same company, human grade ingredients, along with fruit and grain whole foods added, crucial for cat's well-being). I also augment this with broccoli, carrots or peas added to food, as well as raw meats, turkey or beef mixed with oatmeal, a couple of times a week.
All of this cuts down on the food bill and keeps them in optimum health.
For feline diabetics, there is an excellent website, felinediabetes.com. check it out!

catfoodname: my cat eats kal can along with any other food he can find sometimes he eats the dog's food.
catfoodexplanation: it was cheap and my cat likes to eat

catfoodname: kal can, pro plan dry
catfoodexplanation: my stuck up little cat, (to hide her identity we will call her indy), thinks that her picture is on the can
additionalinfo: my cat thinks that she is prettier then your cat

catfoodname: Katz-N-Flocken Cat Food (dry) by SOLID GOLD Health Products for Pets, Inc. for my 4-month old kitten COCO, that I adopted from the SPCA. Spoke with their nutritionists at SOLID GOLD for some advice on proper feeding instructions. Very informative and educational!
catfoodexplanation: Was purchased at the SPCA at time of adoption--because that is what they were feeding her.
additionalinfo: SOLID GOLD also has dry/can food for dogs/cats. They recommended adding milk to her bowl with the dry food for about another month--then, introduce her to a little of the can food with the dry..

catfoodname: Fresh Food - Fish and Rice
Dry Food - Science Diet
Wet Food - A mixture of Whiskas, Friskies
The occasional chunk of papaya
catfoodexplantion: Balance of nutrition and taste. Cat approved it.
additionalinfo: Fullerton is a connoisseur where food is concerned. We've tried various prepared and fresh food, both dry and wet, with varying degrees of suceess for the last 9 months. It has been a challenge to find healthy food that fits the master's palate, which changes every so often!
We serve him FRESH cooked fish and rice twice a day. He would not touch leftovers, especially canned food. He has a constant supply of dry food. And yes, he loves papaya/pawpaw!

catfoodname: Purina cat chow
Purina kitten chow
catfoodexplantion: they love it
additionalinfo: if we do not feed them from the table, they do not beg when we eat. they are use to their cat chow and that is all they know. once in a while, i may give them a pc. of pop corn. my older cat loves cantaloupe.

catfoodname: Pro Plan Senior Dry(for adult cats)
Pro Plan Kitten Dry(for younger cats, pregnant/nursing mom, weaning kittens)
Friskies Canned mixed with Kitten food

catfoodname: Nacho eats Fancy Feast and the Dental diet by friskies.
catfoodexplanation: she is extrmemly picky and this is what she will eat.
additionalinfo: I have been looking at various sites looking to get facts on healthier cat foods because I rescued Nacho and she has feline leukemia and I want to find the most healthy, natural food I can.

catfoodname: Purina Cat Chow
catfoodexplanation: Keeps cats healthy.

catfoodname: California Natural
catfoodexplanation: My kitten was reaching 1 yr and the Iams I had been feeding her was unreliable. One bad would be fine, another she wouldn't go near. So I was looking for a new brand to use and wanted something that not only had the right nutrients but those from good sources. This brand uses stuff that is pretty straight forward and is about the same price as Iams. And she took to it immediately (I did not have to wean her off of the kitten food - she never went back).
