Lesson One:
Dictators Threaten World Power
Key idea: The United Staes remains isolated from the world inregards economics and politicals.
Objectives: To know the forms of government in Russia, Italy, Germany and how their economies lead to war.
Failure of the Versailles Treaty lead to rapid inflation in both America and Europe. The territories that won independance after World War I had to pay heavy war debts. This lead to wide spread hunger homelessness and unemployment. Under the burden of social problems those democracies collapsed and dictators seized power. Stalin, Mussloini, and Hitler had great ambitions of ruling the world.
Assignment: Using the internet create a chart comparing Joseph Stalin, Benito Mussolini, and Adolph Hitler. The chart must contain a minimum of five comparisons.

LESSON TWO:
The War in Eurpe
Key ideas: A serious of moves by Germany begins World War II.
Objective: Explain Germany's motives for expansion and the response of Great Britain. How blitzkreig affected the early war years.
The policy of appeasment gave dictators the ability to agressively take over neighboring countries. In 1939 The German offensive begins in Poland using blitzkrieg. When Germany uses the philosophy of blitzkrieg in France both France and Britain declare war on Germany. Through a network of alliances most of Europe enters the war.
Assignment: Create a time line illustrating when Germany began their aggression through to the end of the war. The dates can include any time you think the war began to 1945.

LESSON THREE
The Holocaust
Key idea: Hitler's plan for ruling the world included mass killings of Jews and other ethnic and anti Hitler groups. This was done in a systematic efficient manner.
Objective: Describe why the Nazi's persecuted the Jews, and define the final solution.
In 1933 the perecution of all "non-Aryans" begins. The idea is to racially purify Germany. This purity is known as the Holocaust; or the systamatic murder of 11 million people across Europe, more than have of these people were Jews.
The Jews were blamed for the failures of Germany and for their defeat in World War I. Concentration camps were established for the implementation of the "final solution." The process of exterminating the jews who were not Arayan.
The concentration camps were the worst places to have experienced. Many survivors of concentration camps have stories to tell about their experiences.
Assignment: Compare two documents written about the holocaust. One must be a primary source, and one must be a secondary source. Analyze them and decide what is similar and what are the differences in the documents.

LESSON FOUR
America Moves Toward War
Key idea: The United States provides aid to those countries opposing Germany and her allies. Pearl Harbor provokes the America and the United States enters the war.
Objective: To describe how the United States assisted those opposing Germany, with the policy of Lend-Lease. To know the results of bombing Pearl Harbor.
The Lend-Lease Plan was an aid package to help allied countries against Germany and the axis powers. This shows that the United States was not nuetral and was active in helping certain countries prior to U.S. involvement.
In September 1941 German U-boats(submarines) fired torpedoes at the USS Greer. A destroyer fot the U.S. Navy. President Roosevelt ordered the navy at German U-boats "on-site".
Japan plans to attack the United States. On December 7, 1941(" a day wich will in infamy") Japan attacks the naval station at Pearl Harbor. The United States officially enters the war, and fights both in the Pacific and in Europe.
Assignment: Using the internet locate maps of the attack on Pearl Harbor and describe (using those maps) what your response might have been to the attack.

LESSON FIVE
The Mobilization of the Homefront
Key idea: The United States enters the war, and America changes.
Objective: To describe the changes that took place in America in its industry and culture.
After the attack on Pearl Harbor both men, women, and minorities joined the military.
As the U.S. went to war American industry geared its plants for war time production. The increase in production and many workers joining the military there was a labor shortage. To fill this shortage industry began hiring women and minorites, those of whom did not enlist. Six million of these "new" workers were women. In the 1940's Roosevelt issued an executive order calling for equitable participation of all workers in defense industries, without discrimination based on race, creed, color, or national origin.
