My Favorite Things About Hamilton's

6431 N Broadway (773)764-8133

Hamilton's is located just off the campus of Loyola-Chicago and is very popular among the students. Getting in with a cheesy fake ID is usually not a problem which is probably why it is so popular amongst the kids at Loyola.

I've been going there since my days at LU and since I am still in the neighborhood I continue to patronize the place.

The eats are great for bar food and you can't beat the prices. I recomend the Hamilton burger if you are in the mood for beef. It has three cheeses with grilled mushrooms and bacon. The burger itself is usually a bit dry, but with all the cheese and bacon you won't care.

If you don't like the meat go with the salad. It comes in a huge bowl and if you ask for it, will be covered in shredded cheddar cheese. I prefer to thousand island dressing, but my girlfriend swears by the honey mustard.

As far as appetizers go you can't beat the potato skins or hot wings. The skins are loaded with cheese and bacon and have enough grease to quench even the most drunk of people. The wings are under rated. you wouldn't think that a dump like Hamilton's could make a good wing , but you'd be surprised. If you have only one item at Hamilton's grab ten wings and enjoy.

The on-tap beer selection is poor, but you don't want to drink it anyway. The sign out front says Hamilton's was established in 1933 and I would bet the taps haven't been cleaned since day one. There is a weird taste to all the on-tap beers that is unsettling and if you happen to get really drunk on pitchers it makes for quite a hangover the next day. Opt for bottled beer. Hamilton's has a special every day on some type of bottled beer so you can keep it cheap.

The atmosphere is very college. Most nights of the week it is college kids and recent graduates hanging out and pounding some brew. The exception is Thursday nights when it turns into a 19-year-old college co-ed meat market. If that is your thing then go.

Your best bet is to go on a Saturday night with some friends order up some wings and the special $1 Busch Light bottles. By the time you finish your wings and have a few more brews the free buffet will be out and you can eat some more.
