=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= FONTS.FAQ Doc. Rev. 1.01 March 11th, 1999 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This is just a quick file to point out a few questions that might get asked. I'll add more as they come in. 1) "The text the program outputs is vertical, but I want it to be horizontal. How do I do that?" - At this point, I'm afraid you can't, but there is another program that can. FABS was created to be a big banner program, in the style of old programs like PrintShop, with vertical output that could be printed on fanfold paper. In the next release of the program (if/whenever that is) I may add horizontal output as it has been the most asked about feature. In the meantime, I recommend you check out FIGLET, which was one of the inspirations for FABS. It has been around longer, has a huge font base, and produces horizontal output. You can check it out at http://st-www.cs.uiuc.edu/users/chai/figlet.html 2) "I created a hollow font (spaces in the middle of the letters), but when I use it in overlap mode, the under letters show through the hollow parts, even though transparent mode wasn't enabled. How do I fix this?" - The program can not discern what is inside or outside a letter by itself, so if it sees a blank spot when it is adding the next letter, it treats it as fair game to fill. However, it treats fill characters differently, and can recognize a blank fill character. So, if you want to create a hollow font with spaces that characters won't show through, you must use a fill character where you want spaces, and then specify the fill character as a space in the font header. 3) "What is the format for the header information of the fonts?" - See the BLANK.BAN or FontUtil.txt files; they both have an explanation. 4) "I created a font, but all the letters are coming out in uppercase (lowercase); what's going on?" - Check the font header; it sounds like the option to convert case is enabled. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ## .d888b. ## .d888b. d8P ######## 98b Y8b. ## .d8Y "Y88b. ## .d88Y" "Y8b.##.d8Y" "88##88" Y8b d8P##98b d8Y "Y888P" ## "9888Y"
