Sometimes she'd ask me, "Hey, are you still in there? Come out soon, baby. I want to see you!" I'd tell her, "Hold your horses, honey! I ain't finished growin' yet. And stop shinin' that light on me, will ya? I need to sleep, you know." Mom's a funny one. You have to know how to handle her. . .

Hiya folks! I'm Baby Baby, a beautiful fawn-pied female society finch. Mom tried to name me "Idgie" after the character, Idgie Threadgoode, in the movie, "Fried Green Tomatoes," but I liked Baby Baby better. :o)
Vinny is my bird-dad, and Brandy is my bird-mom. My human Mom took this picture of me when I was still growin' inside my eggshell. She took my egg into a dark room and held a flashlight to the big end of it, where the air packet was located. It's a process called "candling." Kinda like a bird ultrasound, huh?
Here's a picture of me and my bird-mom, Brandy, just after I came out of the eggshell. By the way, Brandy and Vinny ate my eggshell after I broke out of it. Sounds gross, I know, but that's how they get extra calcium. I was supposed to have two other nestmates, but they never hatched from their eggs, so I'm an only finch. Well, not really because I have three older sisters and two older brothers, but you get the picture. This way, I got all the attention, which is a good thing, especially at dinnertime!
I learned REAL quick that if you want food around here, you have to speak up! Here's me beggin' for food. I was just gettin' my feathers in, that's why I look kinda pointy. When I used to open my beak like this, Vinny and Brandy would shove hot meals into my mouth. (Mom kept tellin' me she couldn't feed me because she didn't have a beak.) If you look under my chin, you can see yellow seeds and green grass in my crop. That's where I store my food before it goes into my stomach. The crop helps me save leftovers for durin' the day.
Now, to be a real member of the flock, mom says I have to do funny poses for people on the Internet. She says it makes them smile and helps them feel good. So I thought, "Why not? Laughin' is a good thing. It sounds like a healthy plan!" She made me pose with this pink flamingo she has. Oh, okay. Go ahead and laugh already! . . .and if you haven't seen that green tomato movie yet, watch it soon; it's good for the soul. See ya!
