PROBLEM SOLVING
In today's society children are being faced with many difficult decisions very early on in their lives. In many cases young people are coming home from school to empty homes. Over 60% of all school aged children are latch key kids (Donavan, 1998). Therefore an adult is not always around to help with these major decisions. Students are challenged daily with situations and problems that will have an effect on their lives. How they choose to react to these problems will decide on whether the effect will be a negative or positive one. Having the ability to analyze the situation properly and reacting appropriately is a skill that can be learned. Problem solving skills are something that can be taught and practiced at school, home, and in the streets. It is a life long skill that can be taught and honed in a school environment. When this skill is used an individual will be able to analyze a situation and be able to discover an appropriate solution.
