SATURDAY - 5th MAY, 2001 -Home Patch
We had another good turnout. Keep it up. To the newcomers who joined us, "Welcome!" We hope to see you often. Our ride took us North through Moshav Batzra, on to Bnei Tzion with a nice stretch of "downhill" through the nature reserve there and onto Yaqum where we turned for home stopping on the way for brunch at Rishpon. The weather was kind to us but I think that we can expect a bit of hot weather in the future so don't forget to read the "Remember" section above.
SATURDAY - 12th MAY, 2001 - Home Patch
Despite no notification going out by e-mail (Sorry! My fault, It must be old age!!)we had another good turnout. Keep it up. Our ride took us through the Industrial Area of Raanana, on to Batzra , then Bnei Tzion where we went through the fields and orchards North turning West and onto a man-made lagoon to the West of the Hasharon Prison. We then cycled on to the road between Tsomet Dror and Netanya and continued on to the beach at Ramat Poleg. We returned along the same road towards Tsomet Dror but turned South at the level crossing just to the south of Netanya railway station and on to Raanana through the pardessim. The one thing that WAS MISSING from out ride was our stop for breakfast or brunch!! Sorry!
Saturday 11th August.- The Green Wheelers and Cyclenix - Nahal Kziv
We started off with a crazy downhill to Ein Ziv, the beginning of Nahal Kziv. After a few thrills and spills everyone arrived at the bottom safely.
After a short while we arrived at Ein Tamir where those brave (and small) enough explored a cave there. We then continued a little further to a nice pool with clean fresh water to cool off. We disturbed a couple of young lovers who were not too impressed by our arrival!
After a short while we were on our way again on our downhill trip along the river, enjoying the breathtaking views of the greenery and the Montfort Castle. On the way back Yair was not feeling well so, John stayed with him and nursed him to the end of the trail where he waited in the shade for his wife to fetch him. It transpired that he suffered a heart attack. We have been told that he is recuperating in the Nahariya Hospital. We wish him well and a speedy recovery. The rest of the group continued on their ride to the finish point at the beach at Achziv. For those of you who found the correct route, you would have passed under the Achziv Bridge that became famous during the Hagana's actions against the British and Arabs in June 1946 in what was known as the Night of the Bridges. The Hagana were to simultaneously blow up 11 bridges linking Palestine with neighboring Arab countries. One team was to blow up the Achziv Bridge, but was spotted by the British who opened fire on them. One of the bullets inadvertently hit the explosives the Jews were carrying and set them off. The explosion blew up the bridge but killed 14 men as well. Despite the illness of Yair, it seems that everyone enjoyed the ride.
