NEWS FOR MAY 2001

GT2K1 IS A CHAPTER IN HISTORY
PHASE 1

Phase I took place in Algonquin and it rocked. A little more than 170 heads showed up to see some crazy shit. Our buddy Johnny C did a cool review, so we will use his shit:

"For those who saw Ganjatime 2K1, they were treated to the best local show I have ever seen, and perhaps will ever see(now that there is a severe lack of venues) I didn't know what to expect, since I had never seen a Stoned Ranger show before, but he knows how to pick out bands!

The Sacred Om started out first, and did a pretty good job.(Especailly since they had to evercome a Red Bull addiction and the unenviable position of playing during daylight). After that, I saw Souled for the first time. They were another good band, although they still had some daylight, as well as a Linkin Park cover that should be dropped. Other than that, they did an unbelievable cover of "Roots" and some solid originals. Inflict, some guys from Elk Grove, were simply amazing. All originals. They only had 5 demos, and the riot for then looked like a bunch of moms fighting to the death for Pokemon cards. Nonexistance, who I had often heard of but never heard, was a pretty impressive act. They did a cool punk-ish version of "Walk", and some other cool punk songs. Since I'm not much of a punk "expert" or even "fan", I'm gonna stop right here: If you like punk, Nonexistance is a great band. Anyone who can make me like punk is a great act. Then the senior members of the night took over. Smoke, which includes a Vietnam vet and a Rebel Radio dj for a drummer, absolutely blew the fucking place apart. Their drums were great, their guitar was great, and the vocals were some of the best i've ever heard. Now we come to the local heroes, a band you may have heard of called Tetnis. Many might call it a disadvantage to play not only after Smoke, but also at about 11 o'clock. Instead, it was an opportunity to them. Some of the best covers were done that night, including "Eye 4 and Eye" and "No". Then of course there were the originals. You all may not know what i'm talking about, but just let me say that those guys have come a long way since "Blackout Rumble". Then there was the finale, "Surfacing". That was great. There was this amazing percussionist they brought up, Johnny something or other. I hear he was a huge........oh whoops, never mind.

In closing, I would like to say thanks to all the bands, to the Ranger for a great time, and especially to everyone who showed up for supporting the local scene. Keep it hardcore. "

Right on Johnny. Check him out at http://www.h8pop.com

PHASE 2

Phase 2 took place in the hick town of Frankfort where really not much was going on. That included phase 2 of GT2K1, but the show still kicked ass.

Committed who were armed with wireless guitars walked around the outside of the building playing. They were even mistaken for someone who was just practicing. They did some kick ass tunes, including a ZZ Top cover. SUffocate the Sickness was a bunch of crazy nuts who kicked some ass as well. Then up next was Understitch who's pain you could feel. Top that off with local heroes Ditchwater who played an awesome set as well. Inflict then had their little band practice but still turned a couple heads here and there and Faceless's set was too extreme to talk about.

Although attendance for the show was only 67 people, it still was a great show.

PHASE 3

Riley's Rock House never sounded better. There was great efort put forth by all the bands. P.R.O.P. from Kewanee got the set rolling with a bullet, while Wht's sounds were full of feeling. Next was Inflict who tore shit up and killed their amp along the way. Followed up by Cry for Dawn who also did a kick ass set. Then Suffocate the Sickness played "round 2" and the place was out of control.

Special thanks to the following people:John Pallisard, Bill & Kathy at the Algonquin hall, Meggie from Suburban Racket, Johnny C, Sacred Om, Souled for playing at last minute notice, Tetnis, Nonexistance, Inflict and Smoke for putting on a great show. Mike and Toni from the Frankfort VFW, Committed, STS, Ditchwater, Understitch, Faceless, and Inflict for doing 2 in a row. The people at Riley's, PROP, Wht, Cry for Dawn, STS for a second run, and Inflict for a third, and especially all who came and saw the shows. We think you are the bomb and we will continue.

RANGER v. JOHNSON
April 23rd was the day the Ranger went to court. As predicted, Johnson did not show up, instead he sent his lawyer who may of been wearing a toupe. Anywas, the judge told the lawyer that "he didn't know that calling the mayor "ignorant" was ground for compensation on a defamation lawsuit." The lawyer argued that they also were suing for false light invasion of privacy. The judge said we have the first ammendment for that. The lawyer said the Ranger did it with malice. The judge sighed and asked the Ranger when he could get a lawyer and now it is continued until June 4, 9:00 AM in room 206 at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse. If anyone wants to come, it is open to the public and it would be nice to see some smiling faces get behind the Ranger.
