TALES FROM THE STRICTLINE: APRIL 2000
DO IT FOR THE NOOKIE...NOT THE MONEY

HELLO Welcome to another fabolous edition of Tales From The Strictline. I would like to take this oppurtunity to personally thank many of the people who helped me do the first show on my own in a long time. This list would be Karen from Wheaton, Dan & that guy from Italian Straw Hat who did sound(forgot your name sorry), Debbie for hooking me up with them, my roomates and their friends for providing help with door and people, and to the bands FivePointe0 and Bulkhead for doing a kick ass job, and Discord and Veroscene for working shit out at last minutes notice. You guys all did a kick ass job and I am grateful to have your help. And also to a good portion of the staff of WHCM. It is great when the station who you thought hated you shows you their love. You guys are awesome, and anyone else who just came out to see the show. And a special thank you to Ange for once again being a kick ass dj. You are and always will be one cool mother fucker. Thank you. Now onto the shit.

Many bands out there have not recieved the recognition they rightfully deserved. Yet many have, but would like people from other areas to see them. The main point of the Strictline since day one was exposure. I want to be an outlet for the little people of Chicago. Although I happen to be one of those people, I feel I have discovered many ways to make things click. I am grateful for many of the bands who take time out to do a Ranger show. It is really great. Whenever I can plug you, I will.

The thing that pisses me off, however, are those bands who are into this business for the money. This kind of business is a business where you must meet people, make connections, get exposure, find new people to discover your music. You get the point.

Since day one of the dawn of Strictline Productions, now Strictline Entertainment, and soon to be "The Strictline", I have always believed that if you bust your ass enough, things will come your way.

Now, there are bands out there who are well established who are making money. You bands, if you want to play, you have come to the right place. If you are looking for money, go to the bank dadeo. I am working to get exposure for you. I have this website, a radio show at Harper College, know lots of people, and now a television show on public access that gets played like crazy. Thank you for the compliments whoever gave them, and to the insults...suck my ass!!!!

I say that the money will come eventually. You need the patience, drive, and motivation to do this type of thing. Anytime you take on showbusiness, it seems to me that you are taking a risk. Why do you think you have to hold a "real world" job? Music should be a good time, not about dollars and cents. I believe that the bands who have played for me who are gracious to be there are continuing to stand tall, while others who haven't are falling apart.

You know, my goal at these shows is just to break even. I am not into making profit. If and when I do, I spread it around. I buy drinks, take people out, whatever. If I were to make a couple hundred, the bands would get it!!! I would throw it in the middle of the room, and after the bar room brawl breaks out, I would take it back. (Just kidding.)

So remember to think to yourself that the Strictline is a good way to gain new fans, or exposure. I know that the people at the show that I knew dug these bands they never heard off. We even had merchandise sales in the back off the hall. It was a fabolous time, and one I am sure I will remember for a while.

That is it for this sappy edition of Tales. Normally I am a little more obnoxious, but it's my month off. What can I say???? See ya next month.

Hi ho steamroller and away,
